Down's Mairin McAleenan claims All Star

All-Ireland and National League champions Tipperary have been honoured with six players on the first ever camogie All-Stars team which was announced at a banquet in the CityWest Hotel on Saturday night, December 4.

Suzanne Kelly, Una O’Dwyer, Ciara Gaynor, Therese Brophy, Claire Grogan and Deirdre Hughes received awards following a hugely successful year for the Premier County. Hughes was also chosen on the Team of the Century earlier this year.

Defeated All-Ireland finalists Cork have three players included - goalkeeper Aoife Murray, midfielder Gemma O’Connor and forward Jennifer O’Leary. National League finalists Wexford also took three places - defenders Aine Codd and Mary Leacy and midfielder Kate Kelly.

Mairin McAleenan from Down was the only Ulster player to be honoured, while Ann Marie Hayes, niece of Galway hurling manager Conor, and Kilkenny’s Sinead Millea also picked up awards.

The International Player of the Year is Annette McGeeney from Roscommon and Sligo IT, while Galway’s Sinead Gannon received the accolade for Young Player of the Year.
