Down are
through to the 2004 All-Ireland junior championship
final on September followig their 1-14 to 0-3
over Roscommon in the Junior All-Ireland semi-final
in Strangford on Sunday.
Always in command following their great start
with two Catherine Mc Gourty points within ninety
seconds of the throw in, it left the Connacht
champions always chasing and despite a twelfth
minute point from Niamh Coyle they trailed 0-1
to Down's 0-7 at the break.
The girls from the Mournes kept up the pressure
in the second half and when Mary Mc Poland goaled
with eleven minutes remaining it was clear who
was going to make to head quarters for the Junior
final against Cork. Cork qualified for the final
after defeating Wexford Score Cork 5-09 Wexford
2-10. The final will take place on 19th September.
