Start of Jnr Ulster Championship
Down v Armagh - Ballycran 2.00 Sunday 16th May

By Donna O'Connor

It's the start of the Jnr Ulster Championship with Down Camogs taking on a strong Armagh this Sunday at Ballycran with a 1:00 pm throw-in.

This is a crucial game for the Mourne Camogs as it will be one of their toughest. If they overcome the Armagh side, it will give them the edge to go on to win the Championship.

The mighty Down side had the National League snatch away from them with their defeat to Kildare. The following games against Carlow (Down 1-22 Carlow 1-2) and Roscommon (Roscommon 1-2 Down 4:19) shows the determination these Mourne Camogs have in resurrecting themselves and building on their weaknesses.

The Down Camogs team has yet to be listed but the Armagh side would need to take note that in previous games all six forwards Mairin McAleenan, Angeline Ferron, Cathy Mulholland, Karen Gribben, Catherine McGourty and Mary Gilmore have scored. With Pauline Green, Lisa McCrickard and Debra Kelland in top form and Teresa McGowan and Orla Maginn in backs the homesters should provide Armagh with a formidable force to be reckoned with in defence.

Overall if the homesters play to their full potential and produce the high standard of play they have been, the Orchard county will have a team to reckon with. Armagh didn't have a very good run in the league but this always a very tough game when the 2 teams meet.

Please note that the match has now been changed to 2:00pm in Ballycran.

I have also included a list of the panel for the Down side on Sunday.

Down Panel:
Ciara McCarthy, Clare McGovern, Teresa McGowan, Moya Maginn, Karen Murray, Pauline Green, Deborah Kelland, Jenny Braniff, Lisa McCrickard, Karen Gribben, Catherine McGourity, Fionnaula Carr, Mary Gilmore, Mairin McAleenan, Angeline Ferron. Orla Maginn, Mary McPolin, Collen Grant, Fiona Duff, Katrina Fegan, Eimear Rodgers and Pauline Trainor
