Ballyvarley Notes - 22nd May 2006
Under
12 ‘Go Games’ Hurling
Ballyvarley Vs
Clonduff
Having beaten Ballela
the previous week Ballyvarley’s
under 12 hurlers faced a strong
Clonduff
side at home in perfect conditions.
The game was eagerly contested
throughout with the visitors running
out the winners.
Clonduff got
off to an ideal start producing two
quick fire goals despite strong
defending by James O’Meara and Aidan
McKernan.
However the young Reds fought back,
applying some pressure on the
Clonduff
defence with Rory
McShane
and Christopher Lennon to the fore.
The home side finally opened their
account with a long ball collected
by Ciaron
Davis and well struck over the bar.
The response was quick
from Clonduff,
with a long free struck high and
into the roof of the net.
Ballyvarley at this stage had a
series of good chances yet were
unfortunate not to convert
A further blow to
Ballyvarley came on the stroke of
half time. Christopher Lennon
sustaining an injury and was unable
to resume play in the second half.
So at the break the young Reds faced
a nine point deficit which failed to
show how much they contributed to
this entertaining hurling game.
HALF-TIME: Ballyvarley 0-1
Clonduff
3-1
After the interval a
reshuffled Ballyvarley team produced
some good hurling but failed to
reduce the deficit. Jonathan Lennon
supplied long balls up to the
forwards but the
Clonduff
defence remained strong. Chances
went a begging in front of goal yet
without that little bit of luck the
young Reds fought hard to the final
whistle against a very good
Clonduff
team. Throughout the course of the
half the visitors added two goals
and three points to their tally to
give them victory.
FULL-TIME:
Ballyvarley 0-1
Clonduff
5-4
Some fine skills were on
show by both teams on the day,
Clonduff
one of the strongest teams in the
Under 12‘Go Games’ Hurling, but
Ballyvarley realise they have a lot
of work to do. With this in mind
training continues for the under 10
and 12 hurlers on Friday evenings
from 7.15-8.30pm at
Newbridge
College,
Loughbrickland.
