Ballyvarley Hurling Notes
The championship is fast
approaching. The Ballyvarley senior
hurlers
championship match, date and venue
has just been confirmed. The game
against
Portaferry will now take
place on Sunday 10th
September in
Kilclief. The throw in is at
5pm. The curtain
raiser to this game will be the
Intermediate Championship match
between
Liatroim and
Portaferry
at 2.30pm. In preparation for this
Ballyvarley’s senior hurlers will
continue to train every Sunday at
12.15pm and Tuesday at 7.00pm in.
David
McGovern represented the club
recently on the South Down team
playing in the Down Senior Hurling
Championship against Gael
na
Uibh
Eochaidh.
David played well at centre
full-forward, grabbing a goal that
helped the South Down side win the
contest on a score-line of 3-13 to
1-9. Good luck from the club goes to
David when he and South Down team
play a strong
Ballycran team in the
semi-final in a few weeks time.
Congratulations to the Ballyvarley/Ballela
minor team who beat Warrenpoint
recently in an enthralling minor
championship match. The locals won
by a goal on a score-line of 3-6 to
1-9. Nine Ballyvarley players
started with all but one of the
back-line coming from the club.
The
under 10 and 12s continue to train
on Fridays from 7.15pm
to 8.30pm at
Newbridge Integrated College,
Loughbrickland.
Last
Saturday there was a highly
successful Barbeque held by
Aghaderg
GFC, Ballyvarley HC and
Aghaderg
CC. The event held in Ballyvarley
Hall was enjoyed by all and thanks
must go to all those that made the
night such a success.
Finally, congratulations to
Aghaderg
C.C’s
Aoibhine
O’Neill who won an All-Ireland
Camogie
winners medal when Down defeated
Antrim on Friday night in the
All-Ireland ‘B’ Minor
Camogie
Final at Casement
Park. Playing in the forward line
Aoibhine
made a great contribution with two
goals to the Down tally. It was a
pulsating game that saw the two
sides score eleven goals between
them, but in the end a goal in the
final minutes of normal time saw
Down
emerge winners by a solitary point.
