Aghaderg GFC and Ballyvarley Hc Club Notes

Hurling
The Senior Hurlers continue to train every Sunday (12.15pm) and Wednesday (7.30pm) at the field. All minor hurlers are to attend Senior hurling training as well with their league beginning very soon. Any new players are welcome to attend the training for any of these teams.

The Under 14 and 16 Hurlers are training away. The next sole under 16 hurling training will be on Friday the 28th of march at 6-15pm at Ballyvarley. The under 16 hurlers next game is Carryduff away on Sunday 30th March at 12 noon, followed by a derby match away to Ballela on Friday 4th April at 6.30pm. The Under 14 hurlers have their first game on Wednesday 2nd April away to Newry Shamrocks. This is followed by a home game on the 9th against Clonduff.

The South Down Minor Hurling team have played their third league game at the weekend against South Antrim at Ballymartin. Undefeated before the match the minors continued their winning streak with a seven point win with Ballyvarley’s Paul O’Neill playing in midfield. The final score was 3-10 to 1-9. The next match for the South Down Minors is at home to Donegal. Venue still to be confirmed.

The club had three players on the South Down Senior squad that entertained Cavan in the National League at the weekend. James McGrath and Colm O’Neill lined out in the half-back line with David McGovern in the squad. Played in Ballela the pitch was in excellent condition and the home side began well with two early goals spurring them on. The South Down team went on to dominate and ran out comfortable winners on a 4-15 to 0-9 to give them their first ever points in the National Hurling League. This Sunday the South Down team play Fermanagh in Ballela at 2.30pm.
