County Hurling
Last Friday the Annual Down County GAA dinner was held in the Canal Court Hotel. Pride of place went to the Down Junior hurlers who won the Leinster Shield, and the South Down Minor Hurlers who won the Ulster Hurling League Division 2, Ulster ‘B’ Hurling Championship and the All-Ireland ‘C’ Hurling championship. Ballyvarley had a number of players on both teams. On the Down Junior team James McGrath and David McGovern were our representatives, James lining out at corner back and David in the half-forward line. In the minors Ballyvarley had Paul O’Neill at midfield and James McDermott in defence, with Thomas Lennon and Conor McClorey vital members of the squad. Congratulations to all our players and hopefully they can add to their awards at club or county level in the future.
