Ballyvarley U14 hurlers produce
a brave second half come back but
couldn’t overcome shamrocks
comfortable lead.
The Newry side dominated the midfield
area right from the throw-in and
built up an early lead before the
reds could reply through an Aidan
Mc Kiernan point. Chris Mc Avoy
added his first goal of the match
before half time proving to be a
constant treat for shamrocks defence.

With some positional changes the
reds started the second half more
positively winning their share of
midfield possession. Their efforts
were soon rewarded with Chris Mc
Avoy collecting a long pass and
sending the ball to the net for
his second. Shamrocks replied hitting
the net twice and showed they were
capable of scoring points sending
four in a row over the bar. Further
goal were added for Ballyvarley
through Aidan Mc Kiernan and Chris
Mc Avoy claiming a well deserved
hat trick began the start of a brave
come back. Strong performances from
James O’Meara at full back
and Cairon Davis who penetrated
deep into shamrock half with solo
runs also Jack Kearns causing problems
for the newry defence. Jonathan
Lennon claimed the last two scores
of the game with a goal and a well
taken point cutting back from the
corner on his left side and striking
the ball over the bar from a narrow
angle.
