Annaclone
hold out to win local SFC derby
Down
Senior Football Championship: Annaclone 2-07 Longstone 0-11
The local derby clash between Annaclone and Longstone in the
SFC played at Newry on Sunday evening proved a very exciting encounter with Annaclone
holding out for a narrow 2-7 to 0-11 win over a game Longstone side.
The
game will long be remembered for the contribution of the winners super sub, Daniel
McCusker who when introduced into the side in the second-half had a major say
in turning the game in his sides favour. With his first touch of the ball he scored
a point, and followed this with a goal and a point which proved decisive in the
end of a match that always held the interest of the crowd right to the final whistle.
Annaclone will be delighted with the win, but they know they will have to improve
greatly if they are to make a major impact in the next round of the competition.
For Longstone, it was a bitter disappointment. They looked at times during the
game as potential winners, and despite a storming finish they were just pipped
in the end.
