2004 Down SFC: Annaclone 2-12 Downpatrick
0-10
By Matt Fitzpatrick - Taken from Irish
News
A BRILLIANT start from Annaclone
in which they scored a goal and four
points in the opening 10 minutes set
them up for victory over a depleted
Downpatrick side in this Down SFC at
Kilcoo last night.
A
goal from Colin Fegan after two minutes
and two points from his brother Aidan
and one each from Benny McArdle and
John Haughey saw Annaclone take an early
lead.
Midway
through the half, Kyran Smyth pointed
a Downpatrick free but a second Annaclone
goal by Aidan Fegan, who also followed
with two points, saw them lead by 2-7
to 0-1 after 20 minutes. Three Kyran
Smyth points left half-time Annaclone
2-8 Downpatrick 0-4.
Three
Downpatrick points in eight minutes
after half-time, all from Kyran Smyth
gave them some hope
but the winners’ reply was immediate
with three similar scores.
In
the final 10 minutes, Downpatrick hit
two points from Kyran Smyth and one
from a Kevin Gracey ’45 but there
was no doubting that Annaclone deserved
their victory.
The
final first round game takes place tonight
in Mayobridge where Kilcoo meet Warrenpoint.
The quarter-final draws will be made
after this game.
