ACFL Div 2: Saval 0-12
Annaclone 1-05
Saval
0-12 Annaclone 1-05
Annaclone fell to another
defeat away to league leaders Saval
on Friday night. Annaclone started well
with a point from Dan McCusker but Saval
replied with 3 unanswered points. The
locals found the going tough playing
into a gale force wind but still managed
points from Colm Farrell and Dan McCusker
to leave the home side a point ahead
with 10 minutes left in the half but
3 points on the trot opened the gap
up again before Dan McCusker converted
a free on the stroke of half time. Saval
drew first blood in the second half
with 2 pointed frees before Brendan
McArdle grabbed a great score from long
range.
Annaclone wasted many
good scoring opportunities in the second
half, totalling 10 wides and 2 missed
goal chances, while Saval notched up
3 points to leave 7 between the teams.
Aidan Fegan grabbed a goal with 5 minutes
still on the clock but neither team
could muster any more scores in the
dying minutes of the game.
With the championship
around the corner, Annaclone would have
liked a better run coming into a game
with one of division one’s stronger
sides. Rostrevor will be a much stronger
outfit than any of the teams Annaclone
have played so far and a performance
anything like the last four games simply
won’t do. Annaclone will welcome
back Aidan Fegan to the fray but team
captain Martin McAleenan is definitely
sidelined with a fractured hand, while
Colm Fegan faces a race against time
to get back to fitness also. All in
all Annaclone need to produce a performance
that hasn’t yet been seen from
this team this season to keep their
name in the hat for the quarter final
draw come Monday night.
Annaclone take on Rostrevor
on Monday night (13th August) in Drumgath,
throw in 7pm.
