ACFL Div 2: Annaclone 1-11
Downpatrick 0-12
Annaclone 1-11
Downpatrick 0-12
Annaclone got back to winning ways at
home to Downpatrick on Friday night.
After a shaky start, conceding three
early points to one Colm Fegan free. The
visitors had the upper hand possession
wise but failed to convert the scores
and Annaclone capitalised, Aidan and
Colm Fegan pointed frees each to level
the game and Dan McCusker converted a
good point after a fine catch from
Brendan McArdle at midfield. Aidan
Fegan, Martin McAleenan and Seamus Quinn
all added scores from play to push the
locals well ahead. With the half nearly
up, Thomas Pyers intercepted the play in
defence and laid off the Aidan Fegan,
who it turn put a great ball through to
Martin Farrell and he made no mistake
when blasting the ball to the roof of
the net. Martin grabbed the first score
of the second half, which left 8 points
between the sides but the visitors
clawed their way back into the game. Six
unanswered points came before Dan
McCusker and Aidan Fegan added points in
the final 10 minutes of the game. The
visitors responded with two scores to
leave two between them with the clock
nearly run down. With the pressure on,
Brendan McArdle plucked a kick-out out
of the sky and put Aidan Fegan in, who
took a fine score with his left foot to
open up the margin again. The visitors
did get another score but it was too
little too late.
After last weeks defeat and with the
injuries in the squad, a win was the
most important thing on the night and
the team worked extremely hard to keep
in front and there were some great
passages of football in the first half
especially.
