Annaclone Ladies travelled to league
leaders Bryansford on Saturday night.
The locals started well with Aileen
Pyers opening the scoring and Eliza
Downey grabbing a goal shortly after.
Eliza added two more points and Sonya
McNeill added another. Bryansford
grabbed a goal against the play but
Eliza and Aileen added two points each
to put Annaclone 8 points ahead. With
about 5 minutes on the clock Bryansford
threw everything at Annaclone’s defence
and broke them down, going in 4 points
ahead at half time. The home side
started with a goal and a point but
Aileen replied with a free. It was then
that things went badly for the local
girls, Eliza was harshly sin-binned, and
with a wind in their back the home team
ran home easy winners with the extra
player.
The first half performance was very
encouraging, particularly the half back
line and midfield performance kept
Bryansford rooted in their own half
while the half forward worked hard to
keep the full forward line supplied.
Bryansford had to double mark Aileen
Pyers in the first half, a compliment as
to how much damage they were doing to
their defence. Leah and her full back
line of Carmel, Joan and Mary worked
extremely hard especially in the second
half against a constant onslaught from
Bryansford.
