ACFL Div 2: Annaclone
4-19 Glasdrumman 0-03
Annaclone 4-19
Glassdrummand 0-03
Annaclone overcame a depleted
Glassdrummand side in Gaelic Park on
Thursday night. The Mourne side nearly
caused an upset in the opening game of
the league but Annaclone weren’t going
being to caught out this time. Paul
Byrne opened the scoring with a goal in
the first minute and then quickly added
a fisted point to his tally. Aidan Fegan
knocked over two more scores before
Brendan McArdle and Colm Farrell
stretched the home teams lead even
further. Glassdrummand did reply with a
single score but it was too little too
late, as Annaclone bagged 6 more points
before the break to leave the score at
1-11 to 0-1 at half time. The second
half went in similar style, Gary Byrne
grabbed two points to open the scoring.
A penalty from Colm Fegan and a goal
from Colm Farrell put the game beyond
doubt, but not before a late show from
Gerald Fegan, who came off the bench to
grab 1-3 in the last 5 minutes.
It was a good performance from Annaclone
but nothing to get carried away with.
Gary McArdle and Niall Higgins played
well at the back while Martin McAleenan
and Brendan McArdle dominated midfield.
Up front Paul Byrne and Martin Farrell
gave the visitors defence a real
nightmare throughout.
