Annaclone ACFL 2: Annaclone 2-15 Kilclief 1-08

Annaclone     2-15

Kilclief            1-08

Annaclone kept the winning streak going at home to Kilclief on Friday night. The visitors opened the scoring with a free early on, but Annaclone responded with a point straight away after Brendan McArdle caught the kick out and played Colm Farrell in for a fine score. Gary Byrne quickly added another from the resulting kick out, this time Gary Byrne made the catch and played a one-two and popped the ball over. Kilclief responded with another free before Martin Farrell opened his account after some good work from Conor McConville. Paul Byrne added a point after a long move out of defence and Colm Farrell finished off a move right from a Kevin McNeill interception on Annaclone’s 14 yard line with a well taken goal. Aidan Fegan, Paul Byrne and Martin Farrell all exchanged scores with the visitors to keep the margin at 5 points coming up to half time. The home side had some hairy moments just before the interval, with two balls cleared off the line, the second resulting in a point for Martin Farrell, and then lost Captain Martin McAleenan to a head injury. Just on half time, Colm Farrell picked up a through ball and finished it to the net for his and Annaclone’s second goal of the game. A Colm Fegan free early in the second half put 10 points between the teams, and a fine score from Aidan Fegan with the outside of the boot restored that advantage after a Kilclief free. The visitors rallied and grabbed a goal and a point but Annaclone never looked troubled. Scores from Colm Fegan and Martin Farrell pushed the ‘clone ahead. With the clash in colours, Annaclone were wearing the green and gold of Ballela, so it seemed only fitting that Eamon McGivern grabbed his first point of the season, and many others, in the last ten minutes. Not to be outdone, Dan McCusker also opened his account for the season with his first touch after long lay-off with injury, after a Sean Byrne free, to put 10 points between the teams at the end of play.

Annaclone had solid but unspectacular performances throughout the team but considering the players unavailable at the minute, a win is very much the main objective. Annaclone GAC would like to thank Ballela GAC for the use of their jerseys twice in the last couple of weeks, it is much appreciated.
