ACFL Div 2: Annaclone
0-14 Saval 0-14
The points were shared in
the top of the table clash in Gaelic
Park on Friday night. Saval started the
better, narrowly missing a goal chance
in the opening seconds and then notching
up 4 points without reply. It took Colm
Fegan to finish of a good move and break
the deadlock for the home team, but they
really got into their stride after that
score and played some of their best
football of the year. By the time Saval
registered their next score Annaclone
had collected 8 unanswered points, the
best of which came from Aidan Fegan,
with a fine dummy and a great finish
with the outside of the boot. Aidan
converted a free before half time to
leave the score 9 points to 6 at the
interval.
A further free from the
boot of Aidan Fegan started the second
half but was followed by 2 points from
the away team. When Colm Farrell
restored Annaclone’s lead to 3 points,
it then became a showdown between
Stephen Sands and Aidan Fegan, with all
but one remaining score coming from
these two players. With two scores each
from these two players, county star
Daniel Hughes closed the gap to 2
points. With three minutes left on the
clock Aidan picked up the ball 40m from
the goals, beat 3 men and finished
brilliantly with a left foot shot.
Saval seemed to be
heading for their first defeat of the
season but on free after another fell
Saval’s way, and Sands converted each
one, the last of which came 2 minutes
into injury time from all of 50 yards to
level it up and keep the top of the
table as it was.
