Reports
U14 Football
An Riocht v Mitchels
At Dunavil An
Riocht beat Mitchels fielding a
mixed team of U12 and U14 players.
Adam White, Aidan McVeigh and
Philip Murnion, released from goals
tonight, impressed in attack. Team:
N Murnion, R Clarke, D Doyle, M
Burden, J McCulla, A Higgins, S
Curran, R McAlinden, P Rooney, P
Murnion, A McLoughlin, R White, A
White, D Bowater, A McVeigh, R
Donnelly.
U16 Football
Atticall v An Riocht
In the
Championship no referee turned up so
the game was not played.
U14 Camogie
Clonduff v An Riocht
In Clonduff An
Riocht won by a point, 2:0 to 1:2
with goals from Christina Trainor
and Briege Mulholland.
U18 Football
An Riocht v Burren
Home to Burren
the minors made light of several
absentees. There was no Damian or
Paul Sherry, Conor Walsh, Paddy
Cordell, Liam Harper or Christopher
Killen in the starting selection. We
began in fine fashion racing into an
early lead boosted by a Conor Sloan
goal but did not maintain that tempo
and allowed a decent Burren team
back into it. While the result was
not in any real danger it will take
a more sustained effort this week
against Carryduff who drew with us
in the city. From the bits I saw
Gary Cunningham and Martin Clarke
were most impressive. Team R Doran,
M Rodgers, S Clarke, C McVeigh, F
Doyle, G Small, G Cunningham, D
Cunningham, J Colgan, M Clarke, D
Ross, J Cunningham, C Sloan, P
Cunningham, N McArdle.
U14 Football
Atticall v An Riocht
It was back to
Atticall in the Championship on
Thursday for the U14 footballers.
After a close first half we ran away
with it after the break. Michael
Clarke was very good at full back
and Paul Allen at centre half. On
the wings Daryl Bowater and Michael
Keenan were steady while Stephen
Corr and Michael Spiers dominated at
mid field. Ethan Burns came on for
the second half and opened Atticall
up with an impressive array of
passes while Ashley McLoughlin
enjoyed a good second half in
defence. Another sub Michael Harper
scored a fine goal and full forward
Paul Rooney chipped in with two more
while Diarmuid Flanagan scored some
good long range points.
Junior Camogie
An Riocht v Darragh Cross
Darragh Cross
were visitors and won by a goal.
Team: C Donnelly, C Killen, J Sloan,
A Clarke, L Brennan, S Campbell, EJ
Magee, N Cunningham, K Curran, M
Horner, L Donnan, M Trainor, R
Sloan, L Donnelly, L Rodgers, A
O’Reilly.
Senior
Football An Riocht v Bryansford
The seniors got
off the mark on Friday night with a
draw against Bryansford. Yet again
we conceded an early goal, Colm
Kearney’s looping cross well
gathered and rifled to the net by
Conor Gribben. Free kicks from John
and Martin Clarke kept An Riocht in
touch and as the half progressed we
began to play some refreshingly
direct football and were good value
for our 0:9 to 1:2 interval lead.
Indeed Peter Travers was forced into
two fine saves to deny first John
Clarke, then Paddy Cole. Bryansford
came more into it as we lost our
grip at midfield in the second half
but kicked some poor wides. At the
other end we began to take a touch
too much and the pace went out of
our play. John Clarke fisted us 0:12
to 1:6 ahead with a quarter hour to
play but Bryansford got a deserved
draw in the final minutes with three
unanswered scores. Aidan Flanagan,
Aidan Cunningham and Colin Flanagan
(first half) were best in defence;
the midfield and forwards faded
after the break and the changes did
not improve things. In the first half
John Clarke, Paddy Cole and Ciaran
Walsh impressed while Martin Clarke
was the top player on the pitch.
U12 Camogie An
Riocht v Clonduff 'B'
On Saturday at
Dunavil An Riocht maintained their
unbeaten run with a narrow victory
over Clonduff ‘B’. Carrie Killen,
Crystal McLoughlin, Nicole Kelly,
Susie Reilly and Sarah Carvil all
played well and Noelle Fearon bagged
the all important goal. Team: D
Higgins, C Killen, M O’Neill, S
Reilly, S Harper, L Gaffney, N
Kelly, S Carvil, C McLoughlin, L
Carvil, N Fearon, S Morgan, A Fearon,
B Colgan, N Farrell.
Thirds
Football An Riocht v Clann Na Banna
On Sunday evening
An Riocht recorded back to back wins
when we had four points to spare
over Banbridge. Eamon Binks proved
an able target man and knocked the
ball down for Martin McComiskey to
pop over two early points. Paddy
Cunningham added a third and Michael
McAllister saved well from Barry
Maginn to deny us a goal. Meanwhile
Bann were picking off a few scores
of their own and just before the
break sub Brian Annett edged us
ahead four points to three. Half
back Ronan Cunningham advanced to
show the forwards the way to the
posts with two quick points and
Brian Annett grabbed his second to
leave it 0:7 to 0:5. An Riocht went
a long way to securing the result
midway through the half when Eamon
Binks pointed either side of his
well taken goal that left the Down
minor keeper well beaten. In the
remaining minutes Ciaran Cunningham
and Dave Morgan defended strongly as
points were exchanged at either end,
Paddy Cunningham and sub Ruairi
Doran our scorers.
