Match
Reports
U14
Camogie An Riocht v Newry
This game was
put off by Newry with no date
known for any refixture.
U12
Camogie Warrenpoint v An Riocht
These girls
won twelve nil at St. Marks school
pitch with Noelle Fearon scoring
an amazing eleven goals and Carrie
Killen bagging the twelfth.
Jessica Rice also played very
well.
U18
Football Rostrevor v An Riocht
By arranging
a challenge game in direct
opposition to the minor league
fixtures County management
deprived the teams of a combined
total of ten players for this game
and in contrast it is a credit to
the teams that they still managed
to provide an entertaining match
for the large attendance which we
won 4:11 to 1:8. An Riochts direct
style exposed gaps in the home
defence and we ran in four first
half goals while missing a penalty
and several other chances. Conor
Sloan (3) and Paddy Cordell were
the goal scorers while Darren
Cunninghams dominance around the
middle of the field ensured a
steady supply of ball to the
attack. Defensively Christopher
Killen, Damian Sherry and Conor
Walsh contained the Rostrevor
forwards and our early lead was
not really challenged during the
match.
Junior
Camogie Kilcoo v An Riocht
An Riocht
match with Kilcoo on Friday
evening was postponed.
U14
Football Annaclone v An Riocht
An Riocht
inflicted a first home defeat on
Annaclone by 5:10 to 2:6. They got
off to a dream start with an
opening goal and a point but by
the fifteenth minute Ryan
Donnelly’s free put us ahead and
then Michael Spiers soloed in for
our first goal. Annaclone hit back
and were only denied by some
heroic defending from Michael
Clarke, Michael Keenan and Conor
Clarke and then just before half
time Ethan Burns finished a one
two with Michael Harper to the
net. Four points to the good we
stretched that to six on the
restart but suffered a set back
when big midfielder Diarmuid
Flanagan limped off. However
before Annaclone could take
advantage Paul Rooney, Christopher
O’Rourke and Michael Spiers all
fired in goals to secure the win.
The team defended well, moved the
ball quickly especially from frees
and took what chances that came
their way. They have certainly
improved from their U12 campaign
of two years ago when not a single
league game was won and Annaclone
beat them in the Championship.
Senior
Football Clonduff 1:11 An Riocht
1:9
In Clonduff
the seniors gave a heartening
display that will hopefully stop
the rot recently set in. With as
many as eight first team regulars
missing the players on duty
performed beyond expectations and
deserved to take something from
the game. We were rocked when
Clonduff goaled in the first
minute and when they added a free
it did not look good but the
players dug deep and adopting a
direct style of play brought the
game into the Clonduff half of the
field. A Stephen Flanagan goal off
a Ciaran Walsh cross lifted
everyone and we went 1:5 to 1:1
ahead. Three frees helped the home
side to a draw at half time 1:6
apiece. Clonduff opened a two
point gap on the restart and
amazingly the game then remained
scoreless for some twenty minutes
until they added a third. We drew
level with the hour played and
were searching for a winner when
they broke and won a fifty which
Jason Brown converted and from the
kick out Plunkett McConville added
his fourth free. We scored eight
of our nine points from play, a
huge improvement on last week
while Clonduff had seven converted
frees in their total of eleven
points. Gavin Finnegan brought off
two brilliant saves in the second
half while Aidan Flanagan settled
rightly into full back. Paul
Sherry and Deaglan O’Reilly were
best in a good defence. Paul
Murney gave everything at midfield
while up front there were no lost
causes with Stephen Flanagan
throwing himself at everything and
Richard Annett picking up the
pieces. Team: G Finnegan A
O’Hanlon A Flanagan C Flanagan P

Before the
game a minutes silence was
observed in memory of Thomas
Curran, brother of our player
Karen Curran.
U14
