Match Reports
U12 Camogie An Riocht v Atticall
The U12 camogs beat neighbours
Atticall eight nil at Dunavil with
goals from Noelle Fearon (4), Nicole
Kelly (2), Shauniece Harper and
Sarah Carvill. Susie Reilly and
Nicole Kelly were our best players
on this occasion.
U16 Football Annaclone v An
Riocht
The U16 boys made the long trip to
Annaclone on Tuesday and came from
behind at half time to win by seven
points. In a difficult contest An
Riocht owed much to the defending of
Christopher Cunningham and Conor
Doyle, the midfield mastery of
Christopher Killen and the scoring
exploits of goal getters Christopher
Matthews and Kyle Morris. Darren
White and Mark McKay were also
prominent in attack. Killen (5) and
Morris (3) bagged the majority of
the points.
U14 Camogie An Riocht v Atticall
At Dunavil on Tuesday An Riocht
edged a high scoring game by 6:1 to
5:0. The first twenty minutes saw us
severely under pressure and only
outstanding play from Colleen Fearon
and Lisa McAlinden pulled us through
to lead at half time 1:1 to 1:0. As
soon as the second half started
Atticall goaled to take the lead.
However after a good save by goalie
Clare Campbell and constant battling
by Emily Keenan and Orla Cunningham,
An Riocht started to put the
pressure on and scored five goals on
the trot. Atticall were not finished
and replied with three goals before
the final whistle as Sarah Jane
Harper and Ella Colgan defended well
to keep the lead. Scorers: Briege
Mulholland 3:0, Noelle Fearon 2:0,
Shauna Sloan 1:1.
U18 Football An Riocht v
Castlewellan
Minus the County players An Riocht
still had too much for visiting
Castlewellan on a dreadful night at
Dunavil. Goals from Conor Sloan (2),
Pearse Cunningham (2), and Liam
Harper helped us to a comfortable
win.
U12 Camogie Ballyholland v An
Riocht
At Ballyholland on Thursday An
Riocht won their second game of the
week, 3:1 to 1:0. Scorers were
Nicole Kelly 2:1 and Noelle Fearon
1:0 and there were good games from
Carrie Killen and Sarah Carvill.
After the main match there was a wee
game in which Colleen Cunningam,
Beth Colgan and Nicole Farrell
played well.
U14 Football An Riocht v Drumgath
In Dunavil on Thursday An Riocht had
nine points to spare over Drumgath
on a scoreline of 4:13 to 3:7. We
played with the wind and led 3:9 to
2:0 at the break. Ashley McLoughlin,
Michael Keenan and Paul Allen were
best in the backs where Philip
Murnion made a few good saves and
cleared the ball cleverly. Diarmuid
Flanagan had a field day at full
forward in the first half. All three
subs came on and did well. Team: P
Murnion A McLoughlin M Clarke D
White D Bowater P Allen M Keenan S
Corr M Spiers 1:2 M Harper P Rooney
0:1 J McCulla R Donnelly 1:0 D
Flanagan 2:6 E Burns 0:3. Subs C
O’Rourke 0:1 S McVeigh R White.
Senior Football An Riocht v
Shamrocks
The senior footballers lost again
though the seven point margin
flattered Shamrocks who goaled in
the first and last minutes of the
match. Behind from the opening
exchanges An Riocht were chasing the
match throughout the first half.
Some poor shooting and an inability
to support Stephen Flanagan who
broke lots of ball at full forward
meant we trailed by four at the
break despite sharing possession. A
better third quarter saw four An
Riocht points scored to level the
match but once we missed a goal
opportunity the advantage passed
back to Shamrocks who finished the
contest strongly. Hopefully at least
half the eight first teamers
currently absent will return for
this weeks game and give everyone a
little lift.
Junior Camogie An Riocht v
Liatroim
An Riocht Juniors match was again
cancelled and will now be played
this Sunday.
U10 Football Atticall v An Riocht
This was played on Monday and a
report will be carried next week.
U14 Football Bosco v An Riocht
This too was played on Monday, too
late for this weeks notes.
Down Camogie
Belated congratulations to the four
girls with Down minors who reached
the Ulster final on 8th
June by beating Derry. Niamh, Emma
Jayne and Lisa were on the starting
team with Aine in reserve. While at
U14 level Sophie, Christina and Ella
travelled to Monaghan with Down for
an Ulster tournament.
Down Football
Congrats to Martin, the two James
and Fergal on reaching the Ulster
minor semi-final against the odds
and good luck to Brendan and John in
the Qualifier Draw.
Well Done to Aaron Higgins who
played for Down Primary Schools
against Tyrone at half time in the
big match at Healy Park on Sunday
and led the band around afterwards.
