Football
Senior Football v Carryduff
The Seniors won with something to
spare in Carryduff on Friday, 2:11
to 0:8. Brendan Mc Veigh was
commanding between the posts and
Carryduff never looked like
scoring a goal. Jim Clarke, Joe Mc
Veigh and Deaglan O’Reilly were
the pick of the defence while Paul
Murney caught the eye with some
high catches at midfield. Up front
John Clarke was our most
consistent performer though Paddy
Cole impressed in the final twenty
minutes and substitute Neil Doran
definitely added something when
introduced. The teams were level
three times in the first half with
Carryduff unable to hold onto a
lead and An Riocht looking capable
of responding at will. At half
time it was level, five points
apiece. Three minutes into the
second half Kieran Mc Veigh got in
but his shot was parried and the
ball fell to Richard Annett who
goaled. At the three quarter stage
we led 1:6 to 0:8 and went on to
score 1:5 without reply for the
somewhat inevitable win. Team B Mc

C Walsh K Mc Veigh 0:1 John Clarke

Seconds Football v Bryansford
A real gutsy performance from the
Seconds who deserved something
from the match with Bryansford.
The visitors fielded a strong
selection with at least six who
started on Friday for their
seniors. Possession was shared
equally but Bryansford made more
of their chances in front of the
posts and built up a strong lead.
However good play just before the
break from Conor Sloan released
Marc Taylor and he buried a low
shot to the net. At half time we
trailed 1:1 to 0:6. The second
half followed a similar trend with
Colm Kearney and Ciaran Branagan
making the most of what came their
way. Gavin Finnegan advanced well
to deny Brian Mc Veigh with his
legs while Conor Sloan and Neil
Doran scored points for us at the
other end. Five minutes from time
Neill Doran burst through for a
goal and we trailed 2:4 to 0:13
but had not the time to rescue the
result. Team G Finnegan M Rodgers

Subs B Sloan P Cordell D Flanagan.
Thirds Football v Clonduff
This was postponed to Monday night
due to Cemetery service. An Riocht
had twenty three players available
and by agreement all got a game.
Opening points from Brian Annett,
Paddy and Pearse Cunningham gave
us an early lead. With Colin Cole
sound in goals and Barry Graham a
classy full back in front of him
Clonduff struggled for scores.
1991 All Ireland winner Michael
Quinn marshalled the half back
line and up front veteran Declan
Sloan and Stephen Annett on his
return from injury were prominent.
Wayne Morris goaled on forty
minutes and Stephen Rooney got the
second in the final moments. Some
of the football played belied the
reserve status of the competition.

Thirds Football v Atticall
The Thirds scored a great draw
against Atticall Seconds in
Atticall on Sunday, 1:9 to 0:12.
Kevin Flanagan grabbed the goal
and Rory O’Hanlon the late
equaliser.
U18 Football v Drumgath
This was put off until Monday due
to a school function and we won
easily to progress to Round Two of
the ‘A’ Championship.
U18 Football v Castlewellan
It was back to league action with
the visit of East Down champions
Castlewellan on Wednesday and we
completed a double over them on a
3:11 to 0:7 score line. After a
keen opening spell we gradually
pulled clear. Michael Rodgers and
Conor Mc Veigh defended strongly
at the back and Christopher Killen
(3) and Conor Sloan picked off
points at the other end of the
pitch. When Castlewellan made it
four two our response was
immediate. From Ethan Burns kick
out the ball went all the way to
Conor Sloan and then across to
Dave Morgan who transferred it
into Declan Ross whose shot was
parried by the keeper and
Christopher Killen following in
returned it to the net. This score
signalled an increase in tempo
with Conor Sloan pointing and
Diarmuid Flanagan lobbing the
keeper for a second goal. Declan
Ross pointed twice in a row and
the half ended with Dave Morgan
goaling off a Conor Sloan pass for
a 3:7 to 0:3 interval score.
The second half began with
Christopher Killen pointing twice
but failed to match the spectacle
of the first half with the teams
sharing eight points, four apiece.

U16 Football v Rostrevor
The U16 footballers turned in a
great display to beat Rostrevor
1:19 to 2:7 at Dunavil on Tuesday.
Though there were nine points in
it at the finish, throughout the
match the result could have gone
either way. That we got off to a
better start and then could always
reply with a series of points
preventing Reds putting two scores
together went a long way to
securing this victory.
Rostrevors keeper rivalled our
midfielder Wayne Bowater for the
player of the match. He made three
first half saves to deny us goals
and after the break did even
better going full length to turn
away a penalty.
We were three nil up when Ethan
Burns released Diarmuid Flanagan
with a quickly taken free and the
big full forward drilled the ball
just inside the post for our goal.
Rostrevor goaled on twenty minutes
and could have had another but for
a great block by Shane White who
then popped up at the other end of
the field to point us further
ahead. Michael Spiers added the
score of the half, breaking a
tackle at speed and shooting on
the run. Reds meanwhile tried to
finish the half on a high but a
Stephen Corr block and a Paddy
Gartland tackle kept them out at
the last minute. At half time we
led 1:9 to 1:3.
Ethan Burns scored two fifties in
succession within five minutes of
the restart, quite a feat to
convert two in a row. When
Diarmuid Flanagans penalty was
brilliantly saved with a quarter
hour still to play Reds trailed by
seven and a goal narrowed the gap
to four before a strong finish to
the game saw us shoot five
unanswered points. Team A Rogers D

Football Tournament
Rostrevor won the U12 Brian O’Hare
Cup beating Saval in the final and
Shamrocks won the Shield beating
Longstone in the final. In all
fourteen teams competed. Thanks
to the teams who took part, the
referees, shop staff, tea staff
and the tidy uppers. An Riocht
exited to the eventual winners at
the semi-final stage.
Congratulations to Kilcoo, winners
of the Paul Farrell Cup last week,
who won the All Ireland Feile on
Sunday.
U10 Football v Atticall
Played on Monday in Atticall all
twenty four players got a full
game. The ‘A’ match was won by us
0:11 to 2:3 with Stephen Doran
(goals), Ronan White, John Paul
Farrell and Edward Mc Alinden all
playing very well. Team S Doran R

match there were a couple of goals

Camogie
U12 Camogie League Semi-Final v
Ballyholland
Played on Saturday in Ballyholland
we were unlucky enough to lose to
a last minute goal, 2:0 to 1:1.
Our scorers were Orla Mc Alinden
1:0 and Noelle Fearon 0:1.
U12 Camogie Championship
v Longstone
On Sunday the girls put the
disappointment of losing the
league play-off behind them to
beat local rivals Longstone four
goals to nil and set up a semi
final meeting with Ballyholland,
Portaferry or Ballycran. Scorers
on Sunday were Noelle Fearon (3)
and Tierna Rooney.
U14 Camogie League v Ballycran
This was delayed due to Ballycrans
involvement in Feile and will be
played this Thursday, 6th,
in the town.
U14 Camogie Championship
Darragh are not travelling so we
have a bye to the semi-final where
Portaferry or Clonduff await.
U16 Camogie League v
Ballyholland
In our first game of the season we
easily accounted for Ballyholland,
8:4 to nil. No doubt stiffer tests
await. Everyone played very well
with Louise Rodgers and Laura
Brennan especially impressive.
