Reports
U8 Football Tournament
Twenty teams, sixty six games
and a bright if cold day made
for a great wee tournament on
Saturday. With half the teams
from outside the county the
opportunity was there to meet
new players and make new contacts
for further matches to be arranged.
Ballyholland won the Cup with
Atticall runners up while Longstone
won the Shield with St Johns
(Belfast) runners up. All 340
players received a medal for
participating. Thanks to all
who helped make the day a success
especially the refs, the shop
staff, the tea ladies, the administrators,
the set up and tidy up crews.
U12 Football An Riocht v Mitchels
The U12 footballers beat Mitchels
to maintain their 100% record
in the league. An Riocht went
into an early lead through a
Deaglan Morgan goal off a Jack
Walker pass and points from
Stephen Flood and Darragh Campbell.
Mitchels replied with a goal
before An Riocht finished the
half on top. Michael O’Rourke
placed a shot low to the corner
of the net and added a point
from JP Farrells pass. On the
restart further major scores
from O’Rourke and Morgan
moved the game beyond the visitors
and Nathan McComiskey, Darragh
Campbell and Larry Shields chipped
in with points. Mitchels ended
the game in fine form forcing
two great saves from Stephen
Doran before scoring a penalty
and another goal from play.
They were denied however by
strong defensive play in the
main from Shane Cunningham,
Ronan White and Andrew Harper.

U14 Football Ballymartin v An
Riocht
An Riocht beat Ballymartin in
the championship and progress
to a quarter final match with
Atticall or Clonduff.
Reserve Football An Riocht v
Glasdrumman
An Riocht Thirds beat local
rivals Glasdrumman at Dunavil
on Sunday evening past after
a nine goal thriller, 5-13 to
4-10.
In a game in which both sets
of attackers had the measure
of the oppositions defence the
scores flowed from the first
minute to the last. Johnny McBurney
blasted a goal direct from a
twenty metre free and then placed
Declan Campbell for a point
before taking a Darren Doyle
pass to point himself. The visitors
hit back to level by the twelfth
minute and after Ruairi Doran
had placed Diarmuid Flanagan
for a lead score Glasdrumman
equalized again. Paddy Gartland
pointed in the twentieth minute
and then a great length of the
field move was finished to the
net by Johnny McBurney to give
An Riocht a four point lead.
Glasdrumman stunned the home
side with two goals in as many
minutes to take the lead, 3-3
to 2-4. There was still time
for Declan Campbell and Johnny
McBurney to tie the match before
the half time break.
They were level again five minutes
into the restart but after that
Glasdrumman were playing catch
up..
Points from Ruairi Doran and
Johnny McBurney edged An Riocht
clear before Diarmuid Flanagan
goaled after a shot from Johnny
had been blocked. Johnny and
Darren Doyle added further points
for An Riocht but Glasdrumman
were not finished yet. Four
points in a row took them to
within a goal and a goal line
clearance from Daryl Bowater
denied them an equalizer. Conor
Cole chipped over a much needed
point for An Riocht before a
penalty goal for the visitors
left the minimum in it, 3-12
to 4-8. Paddy Gartland placed
Johnny for his hat trick goal,
Darren added a point and Paddy
blazed home An Riochts fifth
goal before two late frees for
Glasdrumman ended the scoring.

Premier Reserve An Riocht v
Kilcoo
A poor showing saw An Riocht
fail to score in the first half
with Kilcoo pouncing for three
early goals to put the game
beyond the home side. There
was little improvement after
the break though Darren Cunningham,
Darren White and Gary Cunningham
did add points.
Senior Football An Riocht v
Saval
An Riocht failed to build on
their win in Liatroim last week
with Saval securing an easy
win at Dunavil on Thursday,
3-10 to 1-7.
U12 Camogie Longstone v An Riocht
In the Valley Road pitch An
Riocht defeated Longstone in
the U12CL on Saturday. Centre
fielder Sarah Carvill scored
the opening goal in the first
five minutes but a Longstone
equaliser sent the teams in
level at the break. An Riochts
Clare Fearon, Sinead O’Rourke
and Tierna Donnan all came close
to restoring the lead but Longstone
had chances too and only good
play by Kayleigh Spiers and
Laura Magee denied them. Eventually
the match was decided by an
Aine Fearon puck which clipped
the bar and went over.
U16 Camogie An Riocht v Ballycran
An Riocht played Ballycran on
Monday morning.
U18 Camogie Atticall v An Riocht
An Riocht defeated Atticall
on Friday evening in the U18
