An Riocht
* The Senior footballers played
Rostrevor at Dunavil on Saturday
and what an abject performance
it was, offering little hope
for the remaining three games.
Having gone four nil behind
An Riocht did well to get
back on level terms before
actually going one point up
but with Reds backs allowed
waltz out of defence unchallenged
by our forwards and our defenders
failing to land a tackle in
our half, we were soon in
trouble again and trailed
2-7 to 1-6 at the break. Despite
scoring first on the restart
the lack of urgency in our
play actually worsened in
the second half and with possession
cheaply given away Rostrevor
ran through for a series of
simple scores finishing 4-13
to 1-11 winners in a game
which resembled a cross between
a training session and a sevens
competition. Scorers D O’Reilly
1-0, J Colgan 0-4, J Clarke
0-2, J Cunningham 0-2, K McVeigh
0-1, P Cole 0-1, C Killen
0-1.
* The U14 Camogie League
Final between An Riocht and
Portaferry took place on Sunday.
Well done to the girls and
team mentors on a great victory
0-9 to 0-8.

* The Minor
(U18) camogie team is still
awaiting details of their
League and Championship finals.
A competition that began way
back at Easter and consisted
of only a handful of games
should not be still unresolved
in October. A dispute in the
Ards is being allowed delay
both finals.
* The Junior camogs will play
Dunloy away in the first round
of the Ulster championship
on 12th October.
* ‘K Factor’ coming
on 8th & 22nd November
and 6th December. Anyone interested
in participating contact Ray
on 07731936078 or Danielle
on 07732878204.
* Junior Scor will be happening
in October and recently this
is an area where the club
has not lived up to its responsibilities.
Efforts are being made to
ensure An Riocht is represented
at Junior and Senior Scor
so if anyone out there can
sing, play a musical instrument,
dance, or be a part of a quiz
team then please contact the
club.
* Places are filling up for
the camogie and football Foundation
coaching courses to take place
at Dunavil in October. This
is an ideal way for parents,
family members or players
to get involved and is a chance
not to be missed.
* Indoor football tournaments
at Dunavil, U8 on Friday 10th
October & U10 on Friday
17th October.
* An Riocht have entered South
Downs U11 football competition.
KYC
*The teenage girls project
continues on Mondays from
7pm to 9pm.
* There are plans to run a
snooker league on the newly
recovered table over the winter
starting the first week in
October.
* There is a young mens project
on Wednesdays starting 1st
October. This will consist
of activities like strength
and conditioning training,
the hot rock wall, games in
the hall and walks in the
wild. There is also scope
to include another activity
if participants want.
* Two of the girls are participating
in training with the Fire
& Rescue Service and will
be ‘passing out’
on Friday 3rd October.
* There is a trip to the Grand
Opera House on Thursday 9th
October to the stage production
of Disney’s High School
Musical. Details from the
club.
* There a Halloween arts project
starting at KYC and anyone
interested should attend on
Thursday (tomorrow) or contact
the club to register your
interest. This is not for
primary school age children.
* Training opportunities which
need to be followed up within
the next week are (a) Rescue
Emergency Care (REC) for those
aged 16+. This is understanding
first-aid as an immediate
but temporary care measure
for someone who has become
suddenly ill or injured, it
would be ideal for a leader
or coach. The course content
includes: What is first –aid?
Basic principles of first-aid,
vital signs, accident procedures,
first-aid kits, cardiopulmonary
resuscitation (CPR) &
(b) Child Protection Awareness
for aged 18+ to encourage
good practice by focusing
on codes of behaviour, signs
and symptoms, dealing with
concerns etc.
* Kingdom YC was well represented
at the meeting to discuss
the establishment of a Mourne
Youth Forum. There will be
a follow up in two weeks.
