Ardglass GAC Notes
Ardglass 0-11 Clann
Na Banna 0-7
Ardglass secured the
points with a workman like performance
against a strong and determined
banbridge side. In a tense game the
referee issued several yellow cards
throughout the game but both sides
finished with 15 players on the pitch.
Clann Na Banna
started the brighter hitting two wides
and converting a 30 yard free in the
first five minutes , however this was to
be the last time they were to be in the
lead. Ardglass scored three frees to
open their account while the visitors
responded with a score from play.
Ardglass’ next score
was converted by Paul Mc Cargo after
Chris Taggart glided past two defenders
and pulled the ball back to the edge of
the semi-circle and the big midfielder
lofted the ball over the bar. Clann Na
Banna scored with a 50 yard free before
Paul Smyth scored for Ardglass after
good fielding and a quick pass from
Chris Deegans. Both teams hit two wides
in the final minutes of the half to
leave it 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.
Banbridge scored from
the throw-in to reduce the margin to the
minimum .The home side responded through
Paul Smyth before hitting a series of
wides, and Banbridge pulled another back
from a 14 yard free. Ardglass subsitute
Barry Kearney scored from distance with
his first touch.
A fine Clifford
O’Connor point was sandwiched between
two Banbridge frees before Ardglass
finally raised the tempo in the last
quarter to score three unanswered points
from Michael Magee, Eamon Mc Evoy and
captain Chris Deegans to finish the game
four points in front.
This was an important
victory for Ardglass in their fight for
a promotion play-off spot, with only one
league fixture at home to Teconnaught to
be contested, Ardglass will need maximum
points to see off the challenge of Glenn
and Newry Bosco.
