Ardglass 2-11 Drumaness 1-4
Ardglass continued their good run on
Thursday evening with a comprehensive
victory over Drumaness . The home side
dominated midfield throughout even
though they were missing team captain
Chris Deegans, however the experienced
Paul Mc Cargo and the youthful Michael
Magee forged a dynamic partnership which
provided the possession for the Ardglass
forward line to create many scoring
chances
The first score of the game came
direct from the throw in as Mc Cargo
found wing halfback Stephen Smyth in
space on the left flank and he shot from
distance to record the first score.
Drumaness equalised as Ardglass
squandered five scoring chances before
Liam Mullan ,Matt Rooney and Chris
Taggart all scored for Ardglass. However
the home side’s insistence on shooting
for goal resulted in three more wides
.The visitors responded with a fifty
yard free and twenty yard free from
Paddy Savage to reduce the difference to
the minimum .Ardglass finished the half
with a flourish as Liam Mullan scored
his second point and Paul Smyth
eventually found away past the Drumaness
goalkeeper to give Ardglass a 1-5 to 0-3
lead at the break
Ardglass increased the tempo in the
first quarter of the second period with
Stephen Deegans controlling the defence
and Mc Cargo commanding midfield, while
the pace and movement of the Ardglass
forward line caused the Drumaness
rearguard plenty of problems. Matt
Rooney opened the scoring with a free
which was followed by a Mark Magee point
after high fielding by Mc Cargo.
The next five minutes belonged to
half forward Paul Smyth as firstly he
beat three defenders before fisting the
ball over from twenty yards, he then
gained possession from a kick out and
soloed fifty yards and found the net for
the second time ,he rounded of the five
minutes of trickery with a point from an
acute angle.
Drumaness responded with a pointed
free and a goal but it wasn’t enough as
Michael Magee and Stephen Smyth added
two more points as the game finished as
a contest Ardglass brought on a series
of subs with Ciarian Dorrian returning
from a hand injury and Jimmy Telford
making his first senior appearance this
season. This victory sees Ardglass move
up into second place in the league and
the squad can now look forward to a
fortnight’s break in league action
