Ardglass GAC Notes
Senior Football
The senior football team retained
the annual Connolly Cup after they
over came the hosts Ballykinlar and
Saul before meeting Dundrum in last
Friday’s Final. Ardglass dominated
throughout and cruised too victory,
Half forward Paul Smyth was
outstanding throughout the tournament,
while the break in the league gave the
management an opportunity to introduce
some squad players to the starting
line up and give the returning trio of
Ciaran Dorrian, Stephen Smyth and
Philip Gill much needed match
practise.
Ardglass 1-12 Newry Mitchels 0-5
Ardglass continued their good run
in division three with a good
performance on Sunday afternoon. The
home side where missing the
experienced trio of Stephen Deegans,
Eamon Mc Evoy and Chris taggart,
however with only Marty Curran on the
Injury list Peter O’Shea had plenty of
cover and the Newry men could not
handle the pace and energy of the
Ardglass half forward and Half back
lines while Michael Magee and Chris
Deegans controlled centre field
Liam Mullan was the scorer of the
Ardglass goal while Chris Laird and
Clifford O’Connor marshalled the
defence well on the few occasions when
Mitchels attacked. This was an
important home victory with only four
league games remaining the next one
away to Aghaderg this Friday
Under 14s
The under 14s competed in the
Damien Mc Cashin Shield in Ballykinlar.
They met Saul in the Semi final and
After a tightly contested match they
emerged one point victors,. The
diminutive Daniel Maginn put in an
all-star performance to ensure his
team made it to the final.
In the Final they met Loughinisland
and after tight first period the was
only two scores between the teams,
however the blue mens strength and
pace told in the second period and
they finished ten points in front.
Over the two games Stephen Moore and
Chris Armstrong defended well and
Stephen Rooney and Matthew Mac Mullan
put in good performances while Daniel
Maginn covered every blade of grass in
Kevin Barry Park over the two games
Under 12s
The under12s returned to action
against Dromara on Sunday evening
.Although missing a few players the
young Ardglass players put up a
gallant display with goals from Peter
Og O’Shea and Alicia Telford while
Mark Crangle and Brendan Mc Evoy
defended well they couldn’t stop the
visitors from recording a six point
victory
Training is on Mondays @6.30 in
