Ardglass
Notes - 11th Sept 2005
Ardglass 3-19 Tecconaught 0-7
Ardglass had a convincing win over
teconnaught in the final series of
league games and secured their place in
the promotion play offs. The first half
started at a blistering pace as Ardglass
raced into the lead before teconnaught
pulled a couple of scores back as the
pace of the game slowed down and
Ardglass spurned several chances in
front of goal hitting the post twice
when finding the net was the easier
option. Ciarian Dorrian eventually found
the net to give Ardglass a five-point
lead at the break
A
few stern words form Ardglass manager
Peter O’Shea at half time seemed to
raise the will of the ardglass team as
they overwhelmed Teconaught for thirty
minutes restricting them to two points
in the second half as the forward line
converted point after point. The
Tecconaught net minder made several fine
saves in the second half before
eventually being beaten by Matthew
Rooney and Chris Deegans.
This second half performance from
Ardglass secured the vital two points
that were required to finish in the top
three and they now face a battle with
Glassdrumman and Glenn for promotion to
Division 2.

Ardglass 1-8
Ballymartin 1-11
This Quarter final
tie was an eventful and tense affair
with the lilywhites eventually seeing of
a brave Ardglass challenge.
Ardglass started the
brighter hitting a wide straight from
the throw in before Chris Deegans
converted a 50 yard free after two
minutes. Ballymartin responded with two
scores from play and a couple of wides.
The next ten minutes was a cagey affair
with both teams wasting possession while
under pressure from the opposition and
ardglass registered 3 wides from play
while fullback Stephen Deegans cleared a
goal bound effort from the goal line.
Ballymartin extended
their with a score from play and a 14
yard free. The game was then interrupted
as Ardglass’ Sean Paul Halpin needed to
be removed to hospital with a dislocated
knee. When the game resumed after a
twenty minute break both teams exchanged
wides before Chris Deegans converted
another long range free to close the gap
to one.
The lilywhites hit
back with two scores from play. Paul
Smyth score a fine individual point for
ardglass before he and Martin Curran
combined to set Michael Magee up for a
fisted goal to put Ardglass in the lead
at the break.
The outcome of the
game hinged on a questionable refereeing
decision in the opening minutes of the
second period, after an incident
involving several players inside the 21
yard line, Ardglass’ full forward Mark
Dumican was red carded.
Chris Deegans
converted a free which was awarded to
Ardglass, However over the next ten
minutes Ardglass struggled to contain
Ballymartin’s numerical advantage and
conceded 1-5 without reply.
At this point
Ardglass staged a revival with points
from Matthew Rooney and two from Chris
Deegans Although this was not enough and
as the time ran out Ardglass lost
Midfielder Paul Mc Cargo to two yellow
cards.
This was a brave
display from the men in green and gold
who never gave in against their more
experienced opponents and this
encouraging display will benefit them in
the closing stages of the league.
