Ballykilner/Dundrum
Minors Vs Ardglass Minors
(12/03/2006)
Ardglass minors were
willing to show
Ballykilner/Dundrum minors
what they missed out on in
Ardtole. In there last
meeting Ballykilner/
Dundrum dominated most of
the game with Ardglass
being the weaker side. But
in there second meeting of
the season the Ardglass
boys were well up for it.
The first half was
controlled well by the
Ardglass defence - Mark
Lappin, Malachy Crangle &
Marty Halpin. Limiting the
amount of scores for the
opposition. whilst Michael
Magee and Matthew Rooney
made point of there
chances. Philip Curran hit
the back of the net along
with a Penalty from Magee
to secure a half time
scoreline.
The second half was mostly
dominated by the Ardglass
side. Ballykilner again
fought back but the
Ardglass defence
were posed. Ballykilner
struck the bar and hit
back late on in the second
half with 2 goals. An
outstanding performance
from young Mark Armstrong,
pulling of a number of
great saves to keep his
side in control and goals
from Lee Mc Evoy and
Daniel Fitzsimons this
game was wrapped up and
was a well deserved win
for the Ardglass Minor
team.
NEXT MATCH: Wednesday 5th
April 2006. Against
Dromara @ Ardtole. All
players are asked to be at
Ardtole for 6:00pm to
prepare for the 7:00pm
throw in.
Senior Challenge Match
- Ardglass 2-10
Loughinisland 1-15
Ardglass led this game for
long periods and dominated
their more illustrious
neighbours in spells .
However as Ardglass made
several changes late in
the second half The
Bluemen’s experience told
as they squeezed past the
finish line with a narrow
two point win.
The Ardglass management
will be pleased with the
overall team performance
as well as some
outstanding individual
displays. Ardglass fielded
without several of last
season regulars and they
had more than adequate
cover . Chris Fleming was
solid in goals while Chris
laird and Eamon McEvoy
were strong in the
defence. Michael Magee and
Martin Curran contested
midfield and were helped
by Stephen Smyth. The
forward line was led by
target man Neil Taggart as
Paul Smyth and two goal
Matthew Rooney supported
him well throughout.
Ardglass lost out to
strong Teconnaught side
after they put in a poor
performance in the first
half. In the second half
they competed with more
heart and pegged the
visitors back. However
they left themselves to
much to do. Stephen more
had a fine game in nets
and saves a penalty also
while. Matthew McMullan
and Billy Finnegan were
consistent in defence.
Midfielders Rooney and
Curran took fine scores
from play in the second
half and Paulo Ross won
plenty of ball in the full
forward line.
The Football committee has
organised a race night in
the Green Heights Bar on
Saturday the 22nd
April. Horses are priced
at 5 pound and are
available from any
football committee member.
