notes - 03rd July 2006
The
Golf Classic is on this
Friday and there are
some Tee off times still
remaining, Anyone
interested should
contact Ardglass Golf
Club for Tee
times.(44841022).
Ardglass 1-10 Tullylish
1-8
Ardglass continued their
recent good form with a
home win against second
placed Tullylish. This
was a game of two halves
as Ardglass stamped
their authority on the
first half only to face
a determined comeback by
the visitors in the
second period.
Ardglass started in
whrilwind fashion
scoring 1-3 without
reply in a matter of
minutes. The goal was a
culmination of good play
down the left flank and
Liam Mullan finished the
move with a low drive to
the back of the net.
Tullylish responded with
two frees which was to
be there last score of
the half as Ardglass
added on points five
unanswered points as
they dominated
possession for the
remained of the first
half. The full back line
were tenacious in
snubbing out any attacks
the Visitors could
muster.
The
second period saw
Tullylish dominate
possession however they
could’nt convert that
into enough scores as
the Ardglass defence
hustled and harried them
throughout the half and
several goal chances
went a begging, While
Brian Healy was in
commanding form in the
Ardglass goal denying
Tullylish on two
occasions. Tullylish
scored six second half
points and finally found
the Ardglass net in the
final minutes to leave a
tight finish , however
two second half points
from Cousins Barry
Kearney and Neill
Taggart ensured the two
points would stay in
Ardtole.

Ardtole hosted a East
down go games Blitz on
Saturday morning,
Bryansford, Dromara and
Bright were the visitors
and all four teams
enjoyed two hours of non
competitive football.
There were 27 Ardglass
boys and girls present
and all played their
part. A big thanks to
Malachy Sharvin for his
assistance on the day
and to committee members
and parents who helped
out on the day.
The
under 16s had a good win
over Dundrum at Ardtole,
after losing by a single
point to the visitors
earlier in the year
Ardglass were determined
to overturn that result.
In an all round good
team performance
Ardglass dominated
throughout with the full
back line of Milligan,
Halpin and Ross resolute
throughout, the half
back line of Curran,
Finnegan and Thompson
surged forward at every
opportunity to assist
the impressive half
forward line of James,
Crangle and O’Connor.
While full forward Chris
Armstrong scored 1-4
from play.
The
minors bowed out of the
A championship after a
disappointing one point
defeat to Annaclone. It
wasn’t a great
performance by Ardglass
who were wasteful in
front of goal. They must
now regroup and
concentrate on a run in
the B Championship.
The
under 14s winning run
came to an end in the
East Down A
Championship, with a
heavy defeat to
Castlewellan, who play
in two sections above
them. Ardglass had
several key players
missing and still
managed to show of some
of the fine form they
have been in recently,
After the July Break the
players will be ready
for the second half of
league campaign after an
unexpected run the A
Championship.
The
under 12s travelled to
St Paul’s on Sunday
morning and formed two
teams and both teams put
in tremendous effort
throughout. Paul Mc
Cargo has now formed a
settled panel who are
adjusting to the new
playing rules and all
the boys and girls are
enjoying the new format.
Emmett Lennon Memorial
Cup

Emmett Lennon cup was
donated to the club some
years ago by the Lennon
family in memory of
Emmett who was a
founding member of the
Club in 1971. However at
present the Cup cannot
be located, if anyone
has any information to
it’s whereabouts could
