35th
Anniversary
celebrations
Ardglass GAC was
formed in its present
format in 1971 and
over the past 35 years
the club has continued
to promote Gaelic
games within the
parish of Dunsford and
Ardglass. This year
the club intends to
celebrate this
landmark in a number
of ways. Although 35
years is an unusual
year to mark the
committee has decided
to mark this year as
ten tears ago the club
was focused on
purchasing and
developing land at
Ardtole, it is now
three years since
Ardtole was officially
opened and the
committee feels the
time is right to
celebrate the
achievements of all
the members and
players of the club
over the past 35
years.
The first event will
be a sports day held
in Ardtole on Saturday
24th June
and will include
athletic and novelty
races for the
children, as well as a
series of small sided
games for all Juvenile
players, there will
also be u14 and16
skill comps. For the
Senior players there
will be a 7 aside
tournament and a
special 35 and over
game consisting of
some of the clubs past
stars.
Later in the summer
the committee are
planning football
tournaments at all
levels within the
club, and in the
autumn there will be a
gala dinner dance to
celebrate all of the
clubs achievements
over the past 35
years.
The seniors continued
their recent good form
with an away win
against Aghaderg on
Friday evening. A
strong defensive
display was the
backbone of a 0-8 to
1-18 victory. Stephen
Deegans returned to
midfield along with
goal scorer Michael
Magee and both
provided a display of
high fielding while
Liam Mullan was a
constant threat in
attack along with the
Barry Kearney.
The senior ladies also
had a convincing win
on their travel with a
1-5 to 4 -18 victory
over St
Michaels. Deborah
shields was on fine
scoring form hitting
4-8 of the total while
Ciara Fitzsimmons kept
the score down at the
other end with a
string of fine saves.
Cathy Connor
and Pamela Murphy also
put in strong
performances in an
overall good team
performance.
Under 14s Teconnaught
0-4 Ardglass 10-13
Ardglass travelled to
a sun drenched
Teconnaught on
Thursday night hoping
to come away with
their unbeaten record
intact. This they
achieved with a strong
workmanlike
performance.
Ardglass started
strongly and led 1-01
after only two
minutes, with the
midfield pairing of
Chris Armstrong and
David Kearney on top
they continued to put
good quality ball into
the forwards. The
midfield pairing
finished the game with
a tally of 2-07
between them
The defence who were
well served by Tony
Darragh and Conal
Feenan dealt with the
Teconnaught threat
which was at times
unrelentless, the
Teconnaught team
worked hard and
continued to battle
until the final
whistle.
But it was up front
where Ardglass really
came into their own
with Daniel Maginn
covering every inch of
the pitch, he was well
supported by Stephen
Magennis and John
Feenan who finished
the game as top scorer
with a personal tally
of 3-01.
Ardglass now await the
visit of Loughinisland
in the Championship
for what will
undoubtedly be a tough
encounter
Go Games - last week
the under 10s
travelled to Kilclief
for the first of the
monthly Blitzes.

travelled with two
teams of boys and
girls and they
competed well in all
their games. The Under
12s travelled to
Teconnaught last week
also and came away
victorious after a
great all round team
performance
The under 16s lost
heavily to strong
Bredagh side in the A
championship however
they did compete from
the first to the last
minute for every ball
and put in a
disciplined
performance.
The
reserves continued
their unbeaten run
with two wins over
Bright and Tecconaught,
both games were high
scoring with all the
forwards, midfield and
half backs getting on
the score sheet over
the two matches. David
Feenan, Sean Paul
