Ardglass
notes - 03rd June 2006
Ardglass started this
east Down derby at a
terffic pace with
Ardglass Captain
Stephen Smyth bombing
forward from half back
to score 1-1 in the
opening three minutes,
this was followed by
points from Michael
Magee, Neill Taggart
and Aaron Beattie all
from play. Bright
steadied themselves
after the opening
bombardment and the
direct ball into full
forward Philip Gelston
unsettled the Ardglass
full back line and
Paul Sharvin scored a
goal and a point from
close range.
Ardglass regained
control of the
midfield field sector
and the pace of the
Ardglass play cause
Bright some
difficulties and the
home side scored
another goal from the
boat of Liam Mullan
followed by points
from Magee and Mullan.
Both teams exchanged
frees before Chris
Deegans scored a long
range point from
play., Bright added a
couple more scores
before the break to
leave a seven point
margin at the
interval.
Bright started the
second half with more
purpose and once more
the direct play caused
problems in the home
sides defence. Gelston
scored from the
restart, however this
was followed by three
successive wides.
Bright were awarded a
penalty and this
chance was also wasted
as Ardglass Keeper
Chris Fleming
acrobatically palmed
the ball over the bar
for a point. An Injury
to Bright midfielder
Donal McCartan enabled
Ardglass to get back
into the game. Chris
Deegans converted a
fifty yard free this
was followed by
another Liam Mullan
point from play.
Ardglass were then
reduced to fourteen
men and they managed
to score two more
points from Mullan and
Paul Smyth. Bright
reduced the decifit in
the final five minutes
by scoring a goal and
a point after
defensive lapses in
the Ardglass backline.
Ardglass finished as
they started as Chris
Deegans added a free
and converted a
penalty with last kick
off the game to secure
the two points.
This was a game of
contrasting style as
Bright preferred to
use the direct route
to the full forward
line, Ardglass used
their pace to their
advantage and played
the ball at pace to
their fast footed
forward line. Ardglass
deserved their victory
and Bright are
improving weekly and
will be hoping for an
in improved second
half of the season
The
under 16s recorded
their first win of the
season over Darragh
Cross at Ardtole.
Goals from Malachy
Crangle and Matthew Mc
Mullan ensured a six
point victory. The
Ardglass backline was
vastly improved this
week limiting Darragh
to six points, full
backs Martin Halpin
and Paulo Ross were in
fine form and half
back David Kearney and
Philip Curran were
also impressive. At
midfield Conor
Milligan showed well
before retiring
injured and Shay
Lappin took over from
were he left off.
Christian O’Connor and
Stephen Rooney
provided the ball from
the half forward line
for full forward Chris
Armstrong to convert.
Second half sub Daniel
Magin also made an
impact scoring two
fine points of each
foot.
The
under 14s had another
victory ,this time
over Killyleagh and
Paul Savage’s young
charges remain
unbeaten in their
section. Shane Taggart
and john Feenan put in
great performances and
were always showing
well for the ball.
