Ardglass GAC started the season
celebrating their 35th
Anniversary, however they are ending
it mourning the passing of one of the
club’s longest and hard working
members. Although Paddy never played
football for Ardglass it was behind
the scenes where he did all his work
as a former Chairman and Treasurer as
well as Managing several Juvenile and
Senior teams. Paddy’s dedication to
Ardglass GAC over the past three
decades cannot be put into words.
In his youth he played football in the
Parishes of Belleek and Mulleek in Co
Fermanagh, before settling in Ardglass
and becoming a mainstay as a tigerish
left half forward in the Dunsford team
of the 50s and 60s.
Paddy’s proudest moments as an
Ardglass man were seeing his son Peter
captain the 1994 Junior championship
side and the opening of Ardtole
memorial park in May 2004. Over the
last few years Paddy’s great joy was
taking his grandchildren and too under
10 football and Hurling training.
The Committee and members of Ardglass
GAC extend their condolences to
paddy’s wife Carmel and all the
family.
The under 10 Hurlers of Ardglass made history on Saturday
morning when they were the first to
represent the club at this level in
Hurling. The 14 boys and girls played
several games against players from
Castlewellan, Leitrim and RGU.
The Hurling league will continue each
Saturday in November and training will
continue on Thursday’s @ 6.20 in
Ardtole.
Ardglass lost by three points to
Darragh Cross and for the third year
in succession to miss out on
promotion. As in the first play off
game goals in either half cost
Ardglass victory as Darragh now face
Clann Na Banna for the league title.
Training is on Wednesday and Friday @Ardtole.
First game away too Bryansford on
Sunday @12pm.
