Aughlisnafin were beaten by Ballykinlar
in their first league game of the
season. Ballykinlar with home advantage
recorded a 1-11 to 1-5 win.
Having won the toss the home side
elected to play with the strong
downfield wind in the first half
and scored 6 points without reply
in the first 20 minutes. The Fin
finally got their first score ,
a well taken point from Rory McMullan.
The Kinlar then added a further
point before grabbing a fortunate
goal. Sean Ladd pointed a free to
leave it 1-07 to 0-2 in the Kinlars
favour going into the half time
interval.
With the wind advantage in the second
half the Fin were determined to
pull back the deficit. James Brannigan
and Paddy McClean both going close
after some good possession football.
But the Kinlar got the first point
of the second half. One player from
each side was then sent off for
an off the ball altercation , with
the Fin player seemingly hard done
by.
The reaction then came from the
Fin with Rory McMullan grabbing
a good goal and Brannigan following
up with a point to leave the Fin
5 points adrift with 15 minutes
remaining. The Kinlar then got another
point but the Fin came back with
a long range effort from Sean Willoughby
and a second from Brannigan.
A further two players, one from
each team again were sent off as
the game became a bit niggly.
The Fin sent in 3 subs to try and
save the game but to no avail as
the Kinlar scored a further point.
Brannigan had a last minute penalty
saved after McMullan was unceremoniously
upended in the square, but it would
not have changed the final result.
The Fin got very few of the 50/50
decisons but they will take it on
the chin and prepare for their next
game at home against Aghaderg. They
can take heart that this was a vastly
improved performance from the same
fixture this time last season.
