Aughlisnafin Club Notes 28th April 2008

The seniors were beaten on Sunday by Aghaderg 1-24 to 0-8. Best for the Fin were Martin Quinn, Martin Willoughby, Paddy Mooney, James Brannigan and Martin Burns. Too many missed opportunities and a lack of confidence was the downfall of the Fin squad. If the Fin had played the complete match the way they played the last ten minutes the result would have been a lot closer. Come on lads bring your training form in to the matches.

Senior training continues on Monday and Wednesday at 7 pm in Annsborough.

Congratulations to Martin Willoughby on his new addition - come on Edgar !

Fine wins recently for Fin ladies

The Finn ladies turned in a great display against a determined St Michaels last Monday night. The Fin opened the scoring with a point from Carissa Hall, followed by points from Erin Brennan, Laura Mc Evoy, Ciara Gibney and Kate Mc Comiskey. The first goal came from a great solo effort from Lauren Hackney, with the ball finishing low to the corner of the net.

St Michael's responded with 2 points but in the end the Fin ran out comfortable winners with further points from Jolene Flanagan, Claire Mc Shane and Nuala O'Hare, and a further two goals from Ciara Gibney and Claire Mc Shane.

A great team performance with stern defending from Martina, Maria, Lucia, Laura, Meghan and with Emma in goals.

Congratulations to Anne-Marie Mc Fall, Angie Cunningham, Niamh Flanagan and Tiarna Clarke on their debut performances.

The ladies also had a very good win over Drumgath the previous Thursday night bagging 8 goals and 9 points. Great performances from Emma Joyce in goals, Meghan Flanagan at centre half back, Carissa Hall and Lauren Hackney at midfield, Player of the match Justine Clarke. Highlight of the evening was the 'hat-trick' from Jolene Flanagan. Next match is on Sunday night against local rivals St John's.

Training on Mondays and Thursday night's in Annsborough. Attendance is essential as there is a fierce competition for places due to such a large panel.

Training sessions for the youth continues on Saturdays at 11am. We now have 17 young ones registered and new members will be most welcome. The emphasis is on fun so any kids between 5 -11 not affiliated to any other club should come along and see for themselves.

The result of last Fridays poker night were 1. Gary McAleenan 2. Patsy Ward 3. Betty Smith. Next poker night is the big one on Friday 23rd May , £50 entry.

Lotto numbers : 1, 8, 14, 20 - No jackpot winner. 3 numbers L Eustace, T Gibney Jnr & M McCartan. Jackpot now stands at £2,600.

The committee and members of the club wish to offer their condolences to club members Claire, Lucia & Megan McShane on the death of their grandmother, Eileen Flynn. Mary Queen of the Gael pray for her.
