Aughlisnafin
Club Notes 15th June 2008
In last weeks notes
I wrote about how the Fin were inches
away from a credible draw. This week
they were seconds away from their
first win of the season. Only for
Ballykinlar grabbing a point with
literally the last kick of the game
the Fin would have grabbed all the
points.
The Fin settled quickly with Sean
ladd, returning from injury, opening
the scoring with a well taken point
after some good approach play. Both
sides hit three wides before the Kinlar
got their first point. The Fin then
hit back immediately with points from
Shane Mooney and Adrian O'Hare.
Ballykinlar then grabbed a goal and
a point followed to put them ahead
in the game for the first time. Aidy
McDonald scored a superb point from
play to narrow the deficit. The Fin
net minder Aidan Small then pulled
off the first of three important saves
to deny the Kinlar. However the Kinlar
eventually added another two points
to their tally with Shane Mooney getting
his second point between those scores
to leave it 1-4 to 0-5 in the home
teams favour at half time.
The Fin were first to score in the
second half with James Brannigan pointing
from distance. Kevin Walker then thumped
the ball home to put the Fin back
in front by two points. The Fin were
by then on the front foot with the
industrious Aidy McDonald adding his
second from play to leave it 1-7 to
1-4 in the Fins favour with 15 minutes
to go.
A missed free by the Fin was critical
as Kinlar went straight up the other
end and pulled a point back. Aidan
Small then denied Kinlar two goal
chances with top drawer saves. Kinlar
nicked another point to leave them
trailing by one. Urged on by a good
travelling support the Fin tried to
close the game out. A final attack
from the Fin saw Shane Mooneys effort
well saved by the keeper. A counter
attack by Kinlar saw them get the
equalising point with seconds left
on the clock. Final score 1-7 to 1-7.
I have to say this was a big effort
from the whole squad, from the 15
who started to the 9 lads on the line
kicking every ball with them urging
them on.Aidan Small was the Fins man
of the match but Paddy Mooney and
Sean Ladd weren't far behind.
No doubt there will be the usual post
mortems but every player cannot be
faulted for their effort and committment.
We just need to eradicate the simple
errors and take our frees with more
conviction. Keep it going lads!!

The Fin youth played took part in
their first ever Go Games on Saturday
down in Kilclief. In two hard games
against the hosts and Ardglass their
inexperience showed but in the final
game they drew 3-2 to 3-2 with Bright.
Scorers for the Fin were Faelan Murphy
(2) and Rachel Quinn (1) with Ruari
Quinn scoring a two pointer from all
of 20 yards. The kids enjoyed themselves
immensely and we thank Kilclief for
their hospitality. ( see picture)
Well done Grace on getting a wee footabll
from Gaelic Life mascot at the Down
Armagh game.
