Aughlisnafin
Club Notes 30th July 2008
The club held a boxing
night entitled "Brotherly Love"
in the Fin Hall on Saturday night.
With a proper boxing ring, headguards,
gloves, footwear, gumshields and a
qualified referee every effort was
made to ensure the health and safety
of the fighters. Unfortunately we
had no control over the choice of
garments and the least said about
Spud Murphy's shorts the better !
The night drew a big crowd and was
a resounding success.

Brendan "The Bruiser" Quinn
catching a sore one from his brother
Anthony "Rite hook" Quinn.
Anthony was the victor of this bout.
The first bout was
between the mighty Quinns, Brendan
"The Bruiser" and his older
brother Anthony "Rite Hook"
with the latter the victor after a
bruising encounter. Brendan was left
with two black eyes and a contender
for the role of Kung Foo Panda 2.
The lads' father James said he had
seen better scraps at home when they
fought over the tv remote!!
The next three bouts were between
brothers James & Fra Brannigan,
Paddy & Mosey Mooney and Conor
& Rory McMullan. James, Paddy
and Conor all victors at the behest
of the large crowds approval. I believe
there may be some un-official rematches
lined up.
Aughlisnafin Seniors captain Rory
McMullan sizes up his opponent,
brother and fellow team mate Conor
McMullan. Conor went on to win the
bragging rights.
Declan Malone saw off the challenge
of Ryan Doyle and Conor McAlinden
got the decision against Shane McCann.
The penultimate fight was between
brothers Ben & Sean Willoughby
with the older brother winning the
crowds approval.
The finale was the sumo heavyweight
fight between Kevin Malone and Spud
Murphy. Both lads were knackered before
by the time they entered the ring
weighing in at a combined weight of
60 stone. After an energy sapping
first round the sumo suits were discarded
and the two went on to knock the seven
bells out of each other, all in good
fun. The lads tell me Kevy had the
fight sewn up but the referee called
it split decision . It has come to
light that Spud may have been nobbled
before the fight by the Malone camp
who had 3 goats and 2 ewes riding
on the outcome.
It was a brilliant nights craic and
the club thanks the referee Martin
Mulholland of St Malachys Camlough,
the MC Thomas "Tooter" Murnin
and the support from Liatroim and
Kilcoo. The club also thanks all the
sponsors and the Hall committee. Last
but not least thanks to the fighters
who took part, those who helped out
and all those who turned up to watch.

Ryan Doyle and Declan Malone slugging
it out in front of a packed crowd.
Declan Malone got the decision of
the crowd in this one.
On the football front the seniors
were beaten at home by Dromara 2-21
to 0-5. The Fin were missing several
key players through injuries, suspension
and on holidays. They put in an honest
performance but did not have not enough
to trouble a Dromara team pushing
for promotion. Best for the Fin were
Mosey Mooney, at centre half back
and Rory McMullan in midfield. Scorers
for the Fin were S Ladd (0-2, 2 frees)
P Mooney, J Brannigan, R McMullan
(0-1 each ). The next game is at home
to Ballykinlar on Friday night.
The Fin youth were in Ardglass on
Saturday for the Go Games. The kids
did exceptionally well and thoroughly
enjoyed the experience. Thanks to
Ardglass GAC for hosting the games
and their hospitality. Training continues
on Wednesday night at 5.30 pm.
