Aughlisnafin
Club Notes 7th July 2008
Aughlisnafin were
at home to Aghaderg last Thursday
night. Aghaderg were quick off the
mark scoring 1-4 in the first 10 minutes
with the Fins solitary point coming
from a Sean Ladd free. Ladd was unlucky
moments earlier seeing his effort
crash off the crossbar.
The Fin then started to play with
James Brannigan grabbing a goal and
Chris Doran following up with his
now customary point. Aghaderg's physical
approach seemed to get the better
of them as they went a man down on
20 minutes but the Fin were unable
to take advantage of the extra man
as Aghaderg went on to score a further
1-3 before half time. The Fin kept
in touch with two excellent points
from Rory McMullan and a point apiece
from Adrian O'Hare and Shane Mooney.
Half time score Aughlisnafin 1-6 Aghaderg
2-7.
The Fin started the second half with
a lot more purpose, dominating the
possession in the first ten minutes.as
they tried to pull back the 4 points
deficit. Shane Mooney scored a peach
of a point from 35 yards but with
Kevy Walker hitting the post and 3
wides followed, Aghaderg started to
regain control. For all their possession
the Fin attacks kept breaking down
and Aghaderg picked off points on
the counter attack. In the remaining
20 minutes of the game Aghaderg scored
a further 5 points with the Fin replying
with 2 points from James Brannigan.
Final score Aughlisanfin 1-9 Aghaderg
2-12.
The management and players will be
disappointed not to have taken something
from this game. Paddy Mooney put in
his usual lung busting display but
having shipped some heavy tackles
was forced off injured in the second
half. Francie Boden had a good game
at right corner back and Chris Doran
has settled in well.
On a lighter note I have to mention
Brannigan's goal, lobbing the keeper
from all of two yards. Some tell me
it should go down as an own goal but
he is having none of it. There must
be a wee side bet on top marksman
this season !!
