Aughlisnafin Club Notes 15th June 2008

After a poor performance against St Johns the previous week Aughlisnafin put in a vastly improved display against Bright at Annsborough on Friday night, although it took a big second half effort.

The Fin give debuts to three new players, Aidan Small in goals, Chris Doran at right half forward and Shane Mooney at left corner forward.

It was a poor first half display from the Fin as Bright scored 3-8 with the Fin only managing to get 3 points in reply, one from James Brannigan and two from Adrian O'Hare.

An inspirational half time team talk and some astute tactical substitutions and switches enabled the Fin to regroup and put in a fantastic second half. The Fin played by far their best 30 minutes of football this season out scoring their opponents by 4 points in the second half. Brannigan scored 5 points, A O'Hare adding another two to his tally with Sean Ladd and Rory Murphy grabbing a point a piece. Special mention must go to debutant Chris Doran who scored a brilliant goal following a well taken point moments earlier.

Bright ran out winners 4-14 to 1-13 but the Fin can take heart from their second half display. As well as the scorers mentioned there were also good performances from Paddy Mooney, Marty Burns and Kevin Walker.

Next game is away to Dromara this Friday night. Training continues on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7pm. We need everyone there lads as there is now fierce competition for places.

Juvenile training continues on Saturday mornings at 11am in Annsborough.

The club is now ordering new tracksuits and hoodies. Anyone interested in purchasing please contact Brendan Quinn on 07872 315 546 ( deposit secures order ).

There are also replica jerserys and poloshirts on sale.

There will be a charity poker classic held by the club in the Fin Hall on Friday 27th June in aid of The Leukaemia Ward, Belfast City Hospital.

Congratulations to the Down Senior team on their brilliant win over Tyrone. Commiserations to the Down Ladies. Any members of the club looking tickets for the semi final against Armagh should let the club know by this Sunday 6.30 pm at the latest.
