The seniors were
away to Bright last Thursday night.
By having to play on the smaller
sized training pitch this was always
going to lend itself to a high scoring
game, unfortunately for the Fin
they were on the wrong end of it
going down by a score of 4-17 to
0-12.
After Bright opened the scoring
with a point the Fin scored three
in succession from Marty Burns,
Aidy McDonald and a free from James
Brannigan. But then Bright scored
a goal against the run of play.
A further 3 points from the boot
of Brannigan were matched by Bright
to leave it 1-6 to 0-6 in the home
teams favour at half time.
With a strong downfield wind in
the second half Bright went on to
take advantage scoring a further
3 goals and 11 points to the Fins
6 points. Brannigan adding a further
3 points to continue his good scoring
form of late. Sean Willoughby contributed
with two points from half back while
Rory Murphy at corner forward scored
a late one. Fair play to the Fin
who kept working throughout the
latter stages of the second half,
but without their regular goalkeeper
who was out injured they were always
going to be up against it where
shots on goal were concerned.
There were good individual performances
from Brannigan, Willoughby and Paddy
Mooney but as a team the Fin did
not perform to the standard they
know they can. Time to pick it up
lads.
Team : M Malone, C McMullan, A
Quinn, K Malone, P Mooney, A Cairns,
S Willoughby (0-2), J Brannigan
(0-7, 4 frees), A McDonald (0-1)
( F Boden ), P Rooney, M Burns (0-1),
R McMullan, B Quinn ( T Byrne ),
K Walker, R Murphy (0-1)
Training continues on Monday and
Wednesday nights at 7pm in Annsborough
and next match is at home to Dromara.
The Finn ladies played two matches
in the space of a week with a comprehensive
win over Clonduff. Although going
down to, top of the table, Shamrock's.
Against Clonduff they chalked up
an impressive score of 6-14 to 1-2,
with all but two points coming from
play. Good all round performances
with special mention to Justine,
Megan, Ciara, Kate, Coreen and Claire
and player of the match Shaleen
McDonald. Good to see Nina back
in a green shirt playing as well
as ever.
Although under strength Saturday
night's match against Shamrocks
was a real battle, with Shamrocks
winning by a scoreline of 3-17 to
3-9. This could have been a lot
closer but for several missed goal
chances. Great performances from
Laura Lamb and Laura McEvoy and
player of the match Kate McComiskey.
Fitness levels must improve before
the championship with full attendance
required at training sessions Monday
and Thursday. No excuses!
Next match is home to Teconnaught
(Annsborough) this Wednesday night,
meeting 6.15pm sharp.
Youth coaching sessions continue
on Saturday between 11 and 12 noon.
Everyone must bring their own water
bottle.
