The club held its

Gerard Flannagan who is also stepping
dow after 5 years in the role. The
club thank them for all their efforts.
The club welcomed the new senior
management team of Gerard McCartan
and Philip McGratton and wish them
well.
All the awards were sponsored by
Mulhollands Bar and the club thank
them for their support. The night
was a great success and thanks to
everyone who helped out and supported
the event.
Martina Lenaghan asked me to pass
on her thanks for the club giving
her the opportunity to speak about
the new Irish medium school developments
planned for in Castlewellan and the
need for the communitys’ financial
support towards the construction of
the Naiscoil. I know all the GAA clubs
in the area, while having their own
fundraising to do, will be keen to
offer their support and any donation
no matter how small will be greatly
appreciated by the school. All gaels
will know that when Davin and Cusack
formed the GAA all those years ago
to promote gaelic games they also
sought to promote Irish music and
culture which we do through Scór
and the use of the Irish language
in carrying out its core activities.
The benefits will be there for the
community as a whole.
Speaking of Scor , well done to Grace
and Adam Lenaghan and Dearbhla Murphy
who represented the Fin in the East
Down Scór na nÓg, which
was celebrating its 40th year. This
was their first time competing with
Grace and Dearbhla in the ballad section
and Adam doing the recitiation in
gaeilige. They did very well as it
was only a last minute decision to
compete and we are proud of their
achievements. Aged 11, 10 and 7 they
were among the youngest there. As
youth officer I will be trying to
encourage more of the young ones to
take part in Scór on a regular
basis. The Fin have strong adult Scór
representation and I hope to replicate
this with the youth.
The Fin youth had a Halloween fancy
dress party in the Fin Hall on Saturday
morning to end the current season.
The kids were going to nominate myself
for the scariest face until I pointed
out to them I wasn’t in fancy
dress ! But they made amends by the
very kind card and gift that was presented
to me at the awards night on their
behalf. Thanks to Siobhan & Dearbhlá
Murphy and Jackie Lismore for organsing
it. It was a pleasant surprise. I
would not be able to do the work with
the youth team if it was not for the
help of Brendan Quinn, Jackie Lismore,
Francis Boden and Lauren Hackney.
It was nice to have Jackie dropping
in to present the kids with their
medals marking their progress this
season. This was their first year
competing on the field and they have
come on in leaps and bounds. Thanks
to Brendan Lenaghan for doing the
disco and to Paul Mcguigan and Martina
Lenaghan who also helped out. The
training will start up again in the
new year.
The next poker night will be Friday
28th November and not the 21st as
noted in last weeks notes.
Lotto numbers were 6, 17, 22, 23.
No numbers matched. Tommy Byrne was
the draw winner
