Down Junior Squad
Training continues weekly for Daniel Mc Cusker, Jonathan Mc Cusker,
Donal Mc Cann, Gary Mc Mullan & Paddy Mc Polin in preparation for the
Down Junior squad involved in the Shield. Other Teams in the Shield
include: Louth, Longford, Leitrim and Warwickshire. Matches will be
played in April & May with the Home Pitch being Ballela which is a
great testament to the Clubs new pitch and facilities.
Committee Meeting
Club Committee meetings continue in the Clubhouse every Monday Night
at 8 pm. We cannot stress how important it is that a full committee
is in attendance as we finalise plans for two major events this year.
We will be discussing final arrangements for the official pitch
opening on Sunday 6th May and also we need sponsors and teams in for
the Golf Classic.
We would like any parishioners who can help out in any way to attend
this meeting as there is a lot of work to be done. This is also
putting a large financial restraint on the club so we would welcome
any financial backing from any local businesses or persons. Many
thanks.
Managers for 2007
Bernard Mc Cusker will continue as the Camogie manager as they
contend with life in Division 2 this season after consecutive
promotions. The Girls have been training hard in anticipation in what
they hope will be a long and successful season.
Malachy Magee (Sen) has taken charge of the Senior hurlers in what
will be a tough year for the young team. Training has been ongoing in
the gym and on the field in preparation for a hard season in Division
1.
Joe Cosgrave has taken the challenge of Minor Management this season.
Ballela have joined forces with Ballyvarley at the Minor Level this
season and the club has high hopes for the minor squad this year.
John Rooney has stepped up to U-16 Management this year and will
again work in tandem with Ballyvarley. This is a young squad and we
hope they can stay together for the upcoming seasons.
Martin Mc Anearney has agreed to train and manage the U-14ʼs in
association with Ballyvarley again.
Brendan Mc Clure is continuing as the U-12 and U-10 manager this year
as he continues with the development of the young teams. Brendan has
done a great job over the past few years and we are sure he will
continue to develop the players.
Hurling Training

at 7pm for the Senior Hurling squad. All players must attend. The
Senior Hurlers are reminded that the League is starting on Thursday

Down v Dublin!!!
Down will play Dublin in a County Hurling Match on Sunday 6th May
2007 to mark the official opening of Ballela Hurling & Camogie Clubʼs
new pitch. This is a momentous occasion in the long and proud history
of Ballela Hurling and Camogie Club and it will take a huge effort to
make this day a success. So we call on any parishioners who can
contribute towards the event to contact any committee member. We will
be doing a commemorative programme for the day so if any past
player/member/manager has a significant contribution to make please
contact any committee member ASAP.
