BAILE AILEACH CUMANN LUTHCHLEAS GAEL

Club Trip to Croke Park

Ballela organised a club trip to Croke Park last Sunday to watch two top class Hurling matches. This trip was greatly enjoyed by 25 Children and 11 adults. The Party left Ballela at 9.00 on Sunday Morning and was in Dublin around 12. They arrived to a wet Croke Park and did not hold out much hope for a good day. The weather for
Kilkenny v Wexford match was very wet but the Sun came out for the main game that was Cork v Waterford. This was indeed a ray of sunshine that brightened the afternoon for the day-trippers!!!! A Dan Shanahan inspired Waterford beat the Rebel’s in what was a classic exhibition of Hurling.

All had a good day and stopping off for burgers and chips on the way home concluded the day. Many thanks to Frankie Doyle for driving again and to the Highway man for providing the travel.

Club Lotto is now a massive £4000

Last week’s draw was in the Gall Bog. The numbers were: 2, 8, 10, and 22. Martin Mc Cann and Tom Montgomery drew the numbers and there was no jackpot winner. Bernie O’Hare matched 3 numbers and won £10.

Margaret Mc Evoy won the sellers draw.
Saturday night’s draw took place in Mc Cuskers pub with the numbers being drawn by Noel Burns and Shane Burns. The Jackpot has risen to a massive £3950. The winning numbers were 12, 14, 15 and 24. Anne McEvoy matched 3 numbers and won £10, once again there was no jackpot winner.

This Saturday night’s draw will be in Doyle’s pub with the numbers being drawn by John Doyle and Bernard Cosgrave with a huge cash jackpot of £4000.

Ballela Cul Camp

The club are holding a Cul Camp at Pairc Na Naomh on the week beginning Monday 20th August. This will be a mixture of Gaelic, Hurling & Camogie. There will be fully trained coaches taking the course and Parents are urged to contact the club to book their children’s place. Please contact the club secretary Martin Mc Cann for more information. The deadline for Player registration is Friday 17th August. Numbers are limited and each child attending will receive a free Cul Pack.

Camogie Championship Final

Ballela Camogs are playing in the Championship final on Sunday 26th August. Throw in is at 1.30 pm and the club would like to welcome all the Parishioners and members to attend the match and support the girls on this tremendous occasion. Ballela will play either Attical or Clonduff in the final as this match was postponed last week.

Junior Hurling Championship

Ballela 3-15 Clonduff 0-5

Ballela played Clonduff on Sunday 7th August in Liatroim. The match was played in atrocious Hurling conditions and credit must go to the young Ballela squad for the performance and result they produced.
Ballela still have a few injuries and players on Holidays so the squad was down to the bare minimum for this game. The game started off frantically and Ballela started to get the scores on the board. Indeed the Final score could have been a lot worse if the finishing had of been more accurate but all who were in attendance will agree that 3-15 was a good return for such weather conditions. Gary Mc Mullan produced another fine display in goals and done well to keep a clean sheet. Noel Burns (sen) and Paddy Mc Polin kept the forwards at bay and supplied the ball for Danny Doran and Joe Cosgrave who in turn once again fed the prolific Johnny Mc Cusker. Malachy Magee once again covered every blade of grass on the pitch and his long range frees were first class. Daniel Mc Cusker and Stevie Mc Cusker ran hard and fought well which limited the Clonduff scoring opportunities. Ronan Mc Conville Andy McGivern played well in the halfback line with Mick Doyle, Mark Cosgrave, Dan Downey and Dan Cosgrave all playing well in the forwards. Brian Canavan and John Rooney were the experienced subs.

Ballela will now play Bredagh in the next round of the Championship on Sunday 19th August and the venue has yet to be confirmed. Training continues on Tuesday night and Thursday night and all players are asked to attend.

Night at the Races

Ballela GAC are organising a fund raising night in The Depot Bar, Rathfriland. This is a family night and we urge all members and parishioners to support this event. Ballela is a self-sufficient club and needs to raise money to keep the club active and to develop the
facilities we have.
