Ballela Notes 4th May 2008

Ballela Club Notes – Monday 4th May.

*Ballela under 12 played hosts to Clonduff on Saturday afternoon in a friendly game. The game was played in sunny conditions but a strong breeze blowing down the pitch.

Ballela played into the breeze and opened the scoring with a well taken from James McParland. This was the home sides only score of the first half. Clonduff scored two goals during this period and for some good saves from Ryan McCusker in goals they could have been further ahead.

Playing with the breeze Ballela upped their performance. Ryan McCusker, now at full forward, was the target for the long ball played out of the home defence. Ryan scored the only scores of the second half, which were three points. This left the scores Ballela 1.03 Clonduff 2.00 which on the day was a fair result from a very competitive game which benefited both teams during this long break in league fixtures.

Mark, Sean and Conor Branniff had good games along with Ryan and Mark Cunningham.

Ballela Team: R McCusker, C Branniff, C Heaney, M Branniff, S Branniff, R Cunningham, M Cunningham, C Burns, R Harrison, C Hughes, J Rice, W Murphy and N McGreevy .

Note change of date for the game next week against Ballyvarley it is now on Friday 9th May at 7pm in Ballyvarley.

Thanks to our team sponsor Doral Construction.

Ballela under 10s also played a game against Clonduff and for the second week running nothing could separate these teams.

Owen McGreevy playing his first game of the season had a good game in midfield along with Aidan and Conor Mulgrew who were among the goal scorers. Cathal McClure scored a point from a free. Ciaran Branniff playing for Clonduff was a constant threat to the Ballela defence setting up a couple of goals. Elaine O'Rourke and Kathleen McCormick playing in their first season were in the middle of all the action.

This was an enjoyable game to watch with some good ground stroking and goalmouth action.

Ballela Panel: M McGrath, J McGrath, D McGrath, C Mulgrew, A Mulgrew, C Branniff, P McCusker, J O'Rourke, E O'Rourke, K McCormick, C McClure, T Morgan, N Burns and O Hughes.
