John Mallon stand
opened at the Ballycran venue
Thursday, October 28, 2004
Jack Boothman (Wicklow) the former
GAA President was in Ballycran’s
McKenna Park recently for the official
opening of a new stand at the venue.
The occasion marked
another milestone in the ongoing development
of this ambitious club.
The new stand was
officially named after the recently
deceased Club Chairman John Mallon
for whom the development was a labour
of love. Sadly, John died suddenly
without seeing his dream for the McKenna
Park being fulfilled.
Former GAA President
Jack Boothman spoke of the vitally
important role of the voluntaty workers
within the clubs. He also recalled
chatting to the late John Mallon at
the National Feile celebrations in
Mullingar just a few weeks before
his passing and told how John was
immensely proud of the club’s
success and plans for the new stand.
Local parish priest
and Club President, Fr. O’Neill
was on hand to bless the new stand.
To mark the opening of the stand,
Ballycran senior hurling and camogie
teams played challenge games against
Ballycastle and Liatroim respectively.
