Ballygalget
defeat Down Juniors to reach final - 01/09/2003
SHC Semi
Final: Ballygalget 3-16 Down Juniors 0-07
Ballygalget
prove masters over juniors A depleted Down Junior side were made to pay the ultimate
price despite some sterling resistence in the first half when they went under
by 3-16 to 0-7 against former champions, Ballygalget in this Down SHC semi-final
at Downpatrick on Sunday 31st August.
It was county star
Martin Coulter who powered his side to victory with three goals midway through
the second half. The winners who had the upperhand throughout had good performances
from their half-back trio of Tom Coulter, Gabriel Clarke and Gareth Dynes. At
midfield, Paddy Monan was in impressive form but despite his promptings the Ballygalget
forwards took a long time to get into their rhythm.
However,
with Johnny McGrattan proving to be deadly accurate, converting eight frees, the
winners began to motor and with Brendan Gallagher, Martin Coulter and Barry Coulter
in excellent form the result was never in any doubt.
Sterling
defense from Anthony Tinnelly, Brian McAleenan and Artie McGuiinness in the Down
Junior defence along with some superb goalkeeping from Shane Boyle ensured that
they were not beaten out of sight.
