Belfast outfit O’Donovan
Rossa bridged a 25-year gap at Casement
Park on Sunday, October 31 when they
edged out Down kingpins Ballygalget
to capture the Ulster club hurling
title.
Rossa led by 0-5
to 0-4 after 19 minutes before Martin
Devine came to their rescue by scrambling
Eoin Clarke’s effort off the
goal-line. Following that let-off,
Paul Graham and Paul Close fired over
points to give Rossa a 0-8 to 0-4
lead, but Ballygalget’s Johnny
McGrattan hit four frees to level
at 0-8 each at the interval.
Ballygalget started
the second half with points from Aaron
Dynes and Barry Coulter before Graham
and Mickey McCullough replied with
similar efforts to level again. Jim
Connolly pointed for Rossa and it
was back to all square at 0-13 apiece
on 50 minutes when Johnny McGrattan
slotted over a free.
However, late points
from Graham and Chris Hamill gave
the Antrim champions a narrow victory.
