Ballymatrin ladies continue good league form

Ballymartin Ladies 2-06 Aughlisnafin Ladies 0-03

Ballymartin ladies continued their good league form with a comfortable win over Aughlisnafin last Wednesday night in Pairc Cois Na Fharraige.

Clonduff and Loughinisland had previously ventured to Ballymartin only to leave pointless and the Aughlisnafin girls suffered a like fate in this very entertaining league match. Michele Cousins got Ballymartin off the mark with a well taken point, closely followed by a like score from midfielder Sinead Murphy.

Aughlisnafin battled hard but were unable to break through a resolute Ballymartin rearguard where full back Carol Rafferty was simply outstanding.

Ballymartin continued to pressure and when Orla Rooney gathered the ball 40 yds out, rounded her defender and fired over a great individual score there was only ever going to be one winner of this Intermediate contest. Ballymartin finished the half strongly with points from Aine Hardy from all of 35 yds and a spectacular Michele Cousins goal to leave the half-time score Ballymartin 1-05 Aughlisnafin 0-00.

The second half was a closer affair with Aughlisnafin getting their name on the score sheet almost from the throw-in. The Ballymartin rearguard however held firm
with Julie-Ann Philips, Clare Morgan, Eimear Rooney, Christine Magorrian and Andrea Annett breaking up the Aughlisnafin attack time and again.

Michele Cousins added a further point but the score of the night fell to Ciara McGreevy who fired in an unstoppable shot from 30 yds which rattled the top right hand corner of the net and inevitably ended this match as a contest. This was another good performance from an ever improving Ballymartin side. All credit must go to Aughlisnafin for the sporting manner in which they played this match. Ballymartin Ladies would like to wish Aughlisnafin good luck in their upcoming Junior Championship Final against Tullylish. The next match is at home Wednesday August 11th v Bright @ 7:30pm
