Ballymatrin
keep best performance for Bright
Ballymartin Ladies
2-11 Bright Ladies 1-04
P.j. Cunningham
Ballymartin
Ladies entertained Bright at home
last Wednesday night August 11th
and gave their best performance
of the year to take the 2 league
points from the visiting east down
side. Ballymartin have never
beaten Bright in a competitive competition
and in the previous encounter this
year, they were denied a famous
victory in Killough by a injury
time equalising penalty from Frances
O'Connor having lead from the throw-in.
Ballymartin
got off to a great start in this
return fixture in Pairc Cois Na
Fharraige with an early point from
Michele Cousins, this was quickly
followed by a like score from Sharon
Mcloughlin to send Ballymartin into
a 0-02 pt lead after 5 minutes.
The Ballymartin rearguard again
was very tight and in no mood to
give scores away easily & their
constant supply of quality ball
to a very hungry forward line was
paying dividends.
A
great ball played in by midfielder
Nuala McCartan found Ciara McGreevy
in space and she popped over another
score to keep the momentum going.
Michele Cousins
like
she has so many times in the past
was the instigator of another great
goal that gave Ballymartin a commanding
lead. Bright had to wait to the
15th minute to register their first
score from a Frances O'Connor free.
The response from Ballymartin started
with Julie Ann Philips at corner
back, the ball moved via midfielder
Sinead Murphy to LHF Aine Hardy
who sent Michele Cousins off on
a run, Michele in turn laid the
ball back to Katrina Gerstenbrand
21 yds out from goal and she in
turn knocked the ball to the in-running
Sharon McLoughlin who fired in a
unstoppable shot, which gave the
Bright keeper no chance. Bright
kicked two further points before
the half but these were superceded
by scores from Sharon McLoughlin,
Michele Cousins and a fantastic
Katrina Gerstenbrand effort to leave
the half-time score Ballymartin
2-06 Bright 0-03.
Ballymartin dominated the 2nd period
adding scores from Sharon McLoughlin
(0-02), Michele Cousins (0-02) and
Ciara McGreevy (0-01). Again it
was the 18th minute before Bright
got their first and only point of
the half. A late consolation goal
from Bright brought this game to
a conclusion and Ballymartin were
victors by 2-11 to 1-04.
This
was another great display by the
Ballymartin girls who have continued
to improve with each match. There
is alot of ability in this side
represented by the fact that in
the last 3 matches we haven't fielded
the same team due to holidays &
work commitments but the incredible
work ethic has ensured that the
wins kept coming.
The
next match is this Wednesday August
18th at home v Burren @ 7pm.
