Ballymatrin girls over come Rostrevor


Ballymartin U-16 Girls 5-15 Rostrevor U-16 Girls 6-09

Ballymartin and Rostrevor U-16 Girls played out a very competitive, skilful & high-scoring game at St. Columbans on Sunday morning. Rostrevor playing with the wind notched up the first 2 points of the day. In the 5th minute Catherine Haughian got Ballymartin on their way with a well taken point. Laura Sloan added a great goal to edge Ballymartin further in front. Rostrevor however hit a 4 minute purple patch adding 2-02 without reply to take the lead 2-04 to 1-01 with only 10 minutes gone. Caroline O’Neill stopped the rot with a fine score but Rostrevor replied immediately to maintain their 6-pt advantage. Catherine Haughian moved to midfield at this stage and Ballymartin seized the initiative with goals from Danielle Newell & Laura Sloan & points from Lisa Bailey & Laura Sloan to leave Ballymartin 2-04 to 3-04 down with 20 minutes on the clock. Rostrevor added a further point to which Laura Sloan replied. In end to end stuff, Rostrevor added a goal and were starting to look more dominant. Ballymartin lifted themselves to finish the half strongly with Laura Sloan adding a further 2-01, Caroline O’Neill 1-00 & Catherine Haughian 0-01 to leave the halftime score Ballymartin 5-07 Rostrevor 4-05.

Rostrevor again started the brighter on the restart with the first point, Caroline O’Neill replied immediately only to see Rostrevor work the ball down the field for a fine goal. Ballymartin dominated the next 7-8 minutes with fine scores from Lisa Bailey, Laura Sloan 0-03 & Catherine Haughian to move into a 7 point lead by the 13th minute. Just when Ballymartin looked like romping away with this one Rostrevor added a further 1-01 to leave just a goal in it. Caroline O’Neill brought it back to four with a great effort. Rostrevor were now giving it there all as they tried to take something from this match, tagging on 2 points, however Danielle Newell added the final score of the game to leave Ballymartin victors by 3 points on a final score of 5-15 to 6-09.
