Ballymatrin Notes for week of 28th Feb


The Ballymartin Gaels held their annual dinner dance in the Balmoral Warrenpoint on Friday night past. Special guests were Dan McCartan (Down County Board) & Fr Peter O'Hare. The award winners were: U-21 Player Yr: Austin Crawford, U21 R-up: Martin McConville; Minor Player Yr: Paul Fitzpatrick, Minor R-up: Darren McGuinness, Minor Most Improved Austin Crawford; Reserve Player Yr: Rory McManus, Reserve R-up Ronan McCartan; Senior Player Year: Charles O'Hare, Senior R-up Steven Cunningham; Ladies Player Yr: Sinead Murphy, Ladies R-up: Michele Cousins, Ladies Most Improved: Orla Rooney, Ladies Personality: Carol Rafferty; Clubperson of Yr: Maire McKibbin; Hall of Fame: Oliver McKibbin; A special award was presented to Jim Cunningham the outgoing president by James Cunningham the incoming president to officially mark Jim's 3 years in the top post. Special awards were also presented to John Fitzpatrick to mark his All-Ireland Colleges triumph with St Louis and the senior team management for the past 2 seasons, Charlie Doyle, Johnny Rooney, Gerry Quinn & Damian Cunningham for all their endeavours which were greatly appreciated by the club.

Congratulations to St. Louis who beat St Patricks Armagh 2-09 to 0-13 to book their place in the McRory Cup Final on St Patricks day at Casement Park against Omagh CBS. Well Done to the Ballymartin Contingent of Peter Fitzpatrick, Rory McManus & John Fitzpatrick.
Senior Training continues on a Sunday morning at Kilkeel leisure Centre with a 12:15pm weigh in time and cost of £5 per head. Wednesday nights at Kilkeel Leisure centre at 9pm sharp and friday night at the field for 7:30pm sharp.

The U-16 girls overcame Rostrevor on a scoreline of 5-15 to 6-09 at St. Columbans on Sunday in their first league match of the season. Next game is away v Annaclone on Sunday March 6th @ 12:30pm

Ladies Training has now started and continues on a Wednesday night from 7:30pm to 9pm and on a Saturday from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. All sessions are at the field, Pats Road. All new players are very welcome. If there are any girls interested in joining the U-16 panel, they train on Tues/Sun, see below for details, again all new players are welcome.

Ballymartin Under-Age training continues on the following nights:
Monday - Minor training 7:30pm - 9pm Pats Road
Tuesday Training St Columbans: 6.00pm - 7.05pm U-16 Girls, 7.05pm - 8.10pm U-12 Boys, 8:15pm - 9:20pm U-14 Boys
Thursday Training St Columbans: 6.00pm - 7.05pm U-14 Girls, 7.05pm - 8.10pm U-16 Boys, 8:15pm - 9:20pm Minor

A limited number of under-age Kit-bags are now in stock. If you would like to secure one, please contact Mary Cunningham.

There was no winner of the Club lotto on Sunday night Feb 27th. The numbers drawn were 4, 5, 11, 25. Jackpot next week is £1600. Eight people share £60 for selecting 3 numbers.

Club Membership is now overdue, Adults £20, Juvenile (U-18 on/after Jan 1st) £10 and Family Membership £60 (2 Adults + 2 or more children u-18).
