The Bredagh Summer Camp last week was officially the biggest in County Down with upwards on 180 boys and girls enjoying five days of coaching and craic in Cherryvale. Coaches from all over the county and from Bredagh gelled with the children in a terrific atmosphere, and despite the mixed weather, everyone went home happy. One of the coaches, Bredagh's Minor hurling star Paddy Byrne, is pictured here with some of the U-12s. Sean Blaney, son of Bredagh Chairman, is leaning on Paddy, while Fionntán Quinn on the far left is modelling the new Bredagh kit.

Conor McCloskey, Ruairi Johnston at midfield, and man-marker Damien Moreland were just three of the stars who prevailed in poor conditions to maintain Bredaghs U-12s unbeaten record. All County A Championship Semi-final - Bredagh 1-2 Ballycran 3-4 at Cherryvale
The Ballycran managers admitted after this game that they honestly expected to win this contest easily but what a fright they had!
The boys from the Ards found themselves losing at half-time (1-1 to 0-2) and in a panic situation. That was a credit to the superb and determined play by one of the newest hurling teams in County Down, and to their coaches.

U12's clinch Div 3 crown and U14's qualify for final

Bredagh U10's make it five wins from six games 30/06/2003
Bredagh 6-9 An Riocht 3-3, Cherryvale Saturday June 28th
It's now five wins from six for a team that just gets better and better with every outing. Despite falling behind to an early goal and having a few goalbound efforts well saved by the An Riocht goalkeeper, the Bredagh boys settled into their rhythm and the scores duly flowed. Poacher supreme Brian Cunningham got the first two goals, then Niall Irwin (who had set up one for Brian) hammered home a cracker to the top of the net, Danny Nolan added two points and Tim Durkan made it 4-2 to 1-1 at the break.
A few more Nolan points and a Michael Moynagh goal put Bredagh out of sight, though An Riocht replied with 1-1. In the closing stages, Nolan was on target again and another Cunningham goal made it an emphatic win. Tim Durkan worked very hard at midfield, Declan Magee showed that his skills are now as impressive as his courage with some superb soloing, Daniel Steele deputised very well in goals and Joe Shiels was outstanding in defence.
In the subs game, the whole panel get a good run-out with Ciaran McColgan and Mark Quinn stealing the show. Ciaran's tenacious tackling was a joy to watch, while Mark sent a free to the top corner of the An Riocht net.

Bredagh U14 Hurlers win against Shamrocks 30/06/2003
Newry Shamrocks 2-4 Bredagh 9-3, S'rocks June 20th
This was an opportunity to gauge the Breadgh U14 team had developed since their first competitive outing: the County Feile back in early May. On that occasion they defeated this same Shamrocks team by a solitary point after extra time in the final. On Friday night the winning margin was 20 points and this is a credit to the hard work and dedication these young hurlers have shown in the intervening weeks. Captain Eoin Costello, despite injury, played through the pain barrier and notched up a personal tally of 5-2. He played at full forward while Niall Colton deputised magnificently at midfield along with the brilliant Cormac Hughes. Mark Devlin in goals had another sound 60 minutes and Paddy Woods, Rowan Smart and Osin Quinn were outstanding in defence. Up front Costello had able assistants in Donal Hughes, Niall Nolan and Conall Doherty.
By half time the writing was on the wall for Newry as they trailed 5-2 to 1-3 despite having wind advantage, Costello having bagged 3-2 and a goal each from the Hughes brothers. Newry to their credit came back strongly in the second half but Bredagh held it together to win comfortably in the end. Bredagh took some great scores, with one of the best being the last goal, Niall Nolan’s flick to the corner of the net from an angled cross by Conal Doherty.
